My boiler packed in and I had a local gas installation company come and replace the boiler at a cost of 2 grand or so.

The guy couldn't get the Hot water button to work. The light goes on, The valves upstairs all seem to work but the boiler doesn't fire when only the hot water is pressed.

He claims that there is a fault in the wiring somewhere and it will cost a fortune in time and money to diagnose the whole wiring system. He also proposed a pure bodgery manual valve system as a workaround. This button always worked on the old system before it broke.

I wasn't at home when all this went on (my wife was)and yer man basically took the cash and ran. He wont fix the hot water button without me shelling out a load more cash.

is this ok carry on? If a installer cant get the hot water button working shoudl it cost extra? Any advice from installer welcome.

Is the hot water button on the boiler or on a seperate timeclock?

It's either a fault in the clock, motorised valve. I'm assuming the stat on the cylinder is turned up.
It's obvious the installer hasn't a clue about heating controls. Don't waste your time getting him back. Get somebody that knows their trade. Post your location and somebody might be able to reccomend somebody.
The fact that he charged your wife when he clearly didn't know what he was doing is just shameful.

is there a way on the boiler ( a Worchester greenstar) to come on manually to test that the boilers just water function is working itself?

No, it's the external controls that perform this function, not the boiler.
