Cheap reading lenses over prescription lenses

Anyone ever try this?

I wear prescription lenses for short-sightedness. However, I noticed recently that I need to hold text further away than normal when reading. Google tells me it's likely presbyopia.

I tried out a pair of those magnifying reading glasses you can pick up for a fiver in many chemists. Absolutely useless. Then something made me put them on over my prescription lenses. Dramatic improvement in near-reading focus.

I'm thinking of picking up a couple of pairs, removing the legs, and fashioning some sort of clip for them, like those clip on sunglasses...

Or instead of looking foolish you could get a pair of glasses that do that for you eg varifocals or even, depending on how short sighted you are, take off your glasses

Ah of course, but for the short term. And you wouldn't be walking around in public with them, but rimless over rimless is barely noticeable.
