    Hi

I recently did the online tests for the graduate postions/AO with the civil service. I received an email back that I was successful in the exam and that I was placed on the order of merit and that the top 250 would be called for an interview. The number I was at on the list was about 2101.
So im wondering what this means. Some people have told me that it could be a year and Im called. Does anyone know what it means and if there is a chance I coud be called.

    Thanks in advance :)

It's unlikely we'll be called. I got a really high place too.

They didn't reach 200 with the previous competition.

There's a main thread about the competition you did here:

People post up questions and updates. So far it doesn't look like they've gotten through the first 100.

Really? I did see a friend after I put up that thread who told me they were called for an interview last thurs and were offered the job today. That's two years after he first applied in 2014. Do you think there will be more recruitments in different civil service areas

Maybe he was on a different competition. They definitely didn't reach 200 on the General AO :(

It's unlikely you'll be called. The AO panel only lasts a year as it's supposed to be graduate recruitment. I ranked 400 last year and never got called. They've promised around 200 graduate positions this year

The CO panel was formed in 2014 and is still going, well over 1000 called at this stage last I checked

It was the CO panel that my friend got called for. He has now been appointed to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.

I'm really frustrated at this stage. did not think it would be this difficult and so much competition.

Hopefully they start recruiting again this year

Yeah just to reiterate what others have said.

You usually (or in my two times experience) get called for interview almost as quickly as you get the online test results.

I wouldn't be hanging all my hopes on this one job.

Does your third level degree qualify you for any of the specialist streams? HR, economics, law, tax, etc

You might find those streams easier to progress in given the naturally lower numbers eligible (again if you qualify).

Its social policy that I have studied for the past three years and that Im doing my masters in social policy now. I have a lot of interest in it. I would prefer to go in lower and get experience before trying to move up. I am working full time at the moment also but it is nowhere near what i studied or where i want to go

Well all I can say is they are pretty much holding AO competitions every year now so it's not as bad as it was.

They only started hiring specialist AOs in 2012 and started back hiring generalists in 2014/2015.

Thanks noodler you've given me some hope. It's all about career progression anyway. Be a miracle to to fall into your dream job straight away

An AO role is vague and so dependent on your Department and unit that I dont really see how you could call it a dream job!

    No offence!
