Poor fecker, that's some seriously bad luck . . .

Indian authorities have claimed that a bus driver was killed and three other people were injured after a meteorite fell in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

If proven, it would be the first such death in recorded history.

Experts said other explanations were possible for the incident on Saturday in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

The impact of the object left a five-foot-deep crater in the ground and shattered window panes in a nearby building, killing the driver who was walking past.

The object weighed only 11 grams, the newspaper added, about as heavy as a AAA battery.

Jaysus, the big one in Russia 3 years ago kills no one and a little finger size kills this guy - if confirmed.

It says the fragments are blue, does that tell us anything where it may have come from?

It didn't hit him so explosive shockwave hit him?? Could finger size rock do that???

Well something like a round from an M16 passing very close but not actually hitting can cause internal bleeding from the accompanying shockwave so a lump of rock traveling at much higher speeds and more "wobbly" would have a much larger shockwave around it. Look at the size of the crater. If you fired a 50 cal sniper rifle at point blank into that ground you'd be very hard pressed to find the hole it left after the water settled down. That's a huge amount of kinetic energy.

So its actually disputed whether this is the first death, International COMET Quarterly has a man and woman hit with Man dying back in 1825 but NASA disputes it.

Meteorite generally needs to be bigger than 10 Metres (33 feet) to make it to ground and its all about size, material its made of and angle how hard she'll hit but as Wibbs said a finger will do this, I was thinking terminal velocities but theirs waaaay more into it says Google.

We'll have to wait alright for full story, Daily Mail has story saying it was buried Gelatin Sticks from school construction and the two groundsmen that were injured were burning rubbish and they ignited them by mistake killing man.

Meteorite hit Denmark Saturday aswell, estimated at a handball size, lit up sky, big bang, shook windows.

NASA said that was no Meteor shower at the time but we have Danish Meteorite AND we just hear today the biggest fireball since the Chelyabinsk explosion plunged through the atmosphere over the Atlantic Ocean on the same day.

Theirs an article around, I on phone and can't find it about why NASA would say it wasn't a Meteorite.

Whether or not it was a meteorite SHOULD be very easy to determine from pathology of the tracks of the fragments that appear to be confined to the upper body of this very unlucky man in much the same way as examination of bomb-blast victims on aircraft can be located relative to the blast.

Having been near a few bomb blasts in my previous occupation with victims live and dead showing similar evidence of fast-moving directional fragments, I prefer to await the ME's findings, rather than speculate.

What's more likely in India, gelignite sticks left around the place and set off by fire, or guy getting killed by rock from space?
I'm skeptical.
