Buying a LHD VW California, Tax & Insurance in Ireland!

    Hi Folks, looking to buy a second hand VW Cali in Germany LHD, what road tax is applicable here for a 2.l 140bhp?
    How does insurance work out for a LHD or do I get European insurance to cover me in Ireland.

    Finally, if I have a car insurance policy how do I get insured on a campervan? I know you cannot be the main insured driver on 2 vehicles.

    Don't know about your first queries, but on your last point you can insure as many vehicles as you like.

    LHD makes no diffeence for insurance purposes, I find. For specialist camper insurance the company will insist on you being lead insured on another vehicle, and you will have to forward a copy of that policy. If you have had a claim in the last few years where your insurance paid out over 10k compensation you will find it very difficult to get cover. (In my experience )

    Where does this myth come from? I hear it all the time even though its bullshit.

    mate of mine has his car, he wanted to buy a second small car and as lead driver start to train his daughter to drive, no insurance company would insure him for a second car. Car has to be in daughters name and policy in her name.

    Wanted to do same myself but I guess that option is now clearly out, great country.
