Some people will say this is fair game however I have yet to see a Hollywood film showing the horrors of the occupation of Palestine.

Also how much of the Films take is being donated to the victims of clerical abuse?

The church has spent long enough bashing Hollywood immorality, condemning films like "life of Brian" etc.

What's sauce for the goose and all that...

The RCC in this country has lost all credibility and has yet to reap what it has sown.

The days that it called the shots are well and truely over thankfully. We can only look forward to the its decline and collapse, which can't come fast enough imho.

Is there any actual catholic bashing in this movie or am I being led on here?

I don't like censorship and I believe Hollywood and the rest of the media are very selective in what they will touch.

If everyone was as selective in what they touch this movie wouldn't have to be made

I saw the film last night.

It was completely accurate in its depiction tbh. I will watch with glee respect for the RCC gradually peels away over the coming decades. They are rotten to their very core and deserve every ounce of criticism leveled at them.

There is literally not enough money/apologies in the world to make up for what they put millions of kids through over the years.

How is depicting actual events catholic bashing? What about the horror that millions of kids were put through? Sounds like you'd rather the abuse was kept covered up and never discussed.

I'd be dissapointed if there wasn't any. I might just go and bash some catholics myself beforehand in case.

A film made covering how a Boston newspaper and it's Catholic staff local to the city (Boston) where Catholic on Catholic crimes were committed investigated the story behind the crimes and reported on it - how exactly is that Catholic bashing? Re one of the actors, Paul Guilfoyle was born in Boston, so he's a native son of the city. I'd surmise from his surname that he's an Irish-American and possibly RC (though I don't know those to be facts).

Here ya go, for the sake of 'balance': The Catholic Church bashing on a popular film.

Any and every criticism of the church is seen as Catholic-bashing, it's unavoidable and people will come out with their mental gymnastics feeling personally attacked.

The church dug their own grave with their handling of immensely horrible crimes and gross abuse of power throughout multiple nations. Decades of doing this has finally caught up with them, time & time again on a ridiculously common level it has been shown how corrupt and rotten to the core the organisation is.

They deserve every single bit of scrutiny to pull apart the house of secrets they've desperately tried to maintain at the cost of an enormous amount of victims, lest we forget what terrible things they've tried to hide from the public.

Anyone who thinks this film is "Catholic bashing" either hasn't seen the film or is willfully ignoring the facts of the widespread abuse cover-ups within the church.

Because it's the Jews what are mean to our good Cattlick child rapists, and they should leave us alone cos of the thing in the Gaza thing.

Yup it's that well known Jewish writer Tom McCarthy having a go at them Catholics again! :D

Sorry OP, but just because you may wish these problems to never have happened or feel sensitive about them doesn't mean that they didn't happen or shouldn't be discussed.

The Catholic Church did a lot of serious wrongs a lot of very vulnerable people who trusted it and has until very recently attempted to prevent proper investigation of these things.

You can't have an organisation behaving like that and expecting to retain global respect.

Respect is *earned* or lost by your actions. It's not something you just get because of your title.

The Catholic Church is going to have to just accept what happened and accept that it is going to be critiqued about it by the media and everyone else, including plenty of Catholics!

It's arguably STILL not really dealing with it properly.

You cannot just continue to sweep these issues under the rug just because they upset you. They happened and they need to be resolved and measures put in place to ensure that they simply cannot EVER happen again.

It's also not "Catholic bashing" to point out the flaws of the organisation. That's very legitimate critique. The organisation or its affiliates attempting to hide behind notions of blasphemy or religious discrimination is absolute cowardice! Deal with the reality of what happened and put it right!

I sincerely hope the Catholic Chuch is grown up and self confident enough not to pull that stunt.

Harold & Kumar I can't remember which one was vile I won't get into it here.
I have made my point maybe not to well but there goes.

Op. You have went too far with trying to add South Park and Larry David's curb into this one.

South Park takes the piss out of absolutely everyone. They are very much an equal opportunities style basher of all religions.

As for Curb if you ever bothered to actually watch the show the religion/people that is mostly laughed at throughout the shows are the Jews themselves. Being so interested in Palestine you should seek out the episode where Larry is having sex with a Palestinian woman who rather loudly shouts that she is going to "f@ck the Jew out of him"

That scene would kill 2 birds with one stone for you.

Cheers OP. Hadn't known about this movie. Definitely sounds like one I want to see. Will go on Sunday.

In all fairness, what are you at suggesting that some of the take should be donated to the victims of clerical abuse?

Clerical abuse.........there's the hint. It was carried out by clerics, i.e. members of the church. It's the church who should pay compensation, not Hollywood film makers.

Do, it's really good. 5 stars from me.

Well, yes. Who would have more against the Nazis than the Jews? Who control Hollywood? Of course they are going to make the Nazis look like the bad guys. There was no mention of 0 unemployment or the roads being fixed in the film because they were biased.

and the new sitcom The Real O'Neales is starting this year, a sitcom making fun of Roman Catholic priests and the religion, an absolute disgrace,

I found out through 23andme that I have relations (rather distant) in Canada, he plays one of the leading roles in this film.

I am Catholic, I don't believe there is anything wrong making a film about what happened in Boston, once it is factually based.
Apparently the Vatican called it an honest and compelling film and how what what the film is based on - the reporters who exposed the scandal, helped "to accept fully the sin, to admit it publicly, and to pay all the consequences."
I don't see the church having a problem with the truth being shown in a movie, given it is what they say is an 'honest' portrayal.
That is a good place for the church to be in, even if the subject matter is negative towards them.
Being open is where they need to be, it was the hiding that caused all the problems.
