Hi my wife is a nurse, she's heard of colleagues claiming a uniform allowance?! Is this a thing? I've looked through her PAYE anytime and can't see anywhere to claim for such an allowance

I believe it's under the heading Flat Rate (employment) expenses, rather than uniform allowance.

When you look at her 2016 credits, is there an entry in green for flat rate expenses? If it is, she has already claimed it. Check the previous 4 years and it's already highlighted green, then it's been claimed already.

You can also check her tax credit certificates available on the site for the last 4 years and this year. If flat rate expenses is on them then it's been claimed already.
