    Name one or two, please.

Shaqiri, Cabaye. I can go on.

Luckily the league is a competition against the other teams in the league, not against points totals in other seasons.

Yep, and Chelsea have essentially the same team, City strengthened. Hmmmm.
Pretty sure Chelsea are current champions and City have won it twice in 3 years. When you improve your first 11 you have a much higher chance of success than when you dont.

not sure where either of those players would fit into the starting 11. don't think either would want to be squad players before euros.

not entirely sure of your point. since they have won, that explains why they aren't winning now?

we improved our first 11 since last year.

Shaqiri starts straight away and Cabaye is technically a much better player than Flamini and Arteta.

The point I am making with City and Chelsea is they are both clubs who have heavily invested in the teams over the years and look at the success it has brought them. Multiple title winning clubs in the last 10 years and a Champions Lge trophy. I am not saying we can compete with them financially but we should be doing a lot better in the market than we are currently.

We brought in Cech, a world class goalkeeper who has probably saved us 10 points this season. He was brought in about 7 years too late. Wenger again putting his faith in average players that werent up to it, Almunia and Chesney.

That's fair enough about club investment, but even though we have the finances, we don't blow it in the way those clubs do. That's just the way it is. Wenger has shown he is willing to spend big money on the right players though.....what he won't do is spend Sanchez type money on the rubbish that city will.

Arteta and Flamini are squad players, which is why Cabaye wouldn't play for us. Shaqiri is a decent player, but I honestly can't see where he would play. Maybe down the right, but I honestly don't know what his workrate is up and down the pitch. Haven't paid much attention other than his attacking play. Wouldn't say he's nailed on for the starting lineup though.

Wenger put his faith in 'average players' when the most he would spend on a player was £10-15m. You don't get world class for that.

Exactly the reason why we keep on failing. As I have already said we are 2 top players short of having one of the best squads in world football. We just need that extra bit of quality but he wont spend.

The problem is that we don't need quality in random positions. We need quality in particular positions, and there aren't the players there for a price he thinks they're worth. I tend to agree. I'm pretty sure he started the season thinking Arteta had a big role to play for us, especially with him being the club captain. He has discovered pretty quickly that he's just not up to it.

Regarding Shaqiri, here's an example on why he wouldn't walk straight into the starting 11.

Not a hope Shaqiri starts for us. Only way he makes the team is if Sanchez is out. You couldn't field a team with Giroud,Sanchez,Ozil and Shaqiri.. We'd just get overrun on the counter.

Cabaye would have been a smart purchase though.

I disagree. Sanchez is one of the hardest workers at tracking back I have ever seen. Ozil puts a good shift in too and doesnt sherk his defensive duties.

Shaqiri who has scored in one game this season?

2 goals 3 assists in 17 Premier Lge games. Not bad for his first season in English football. I have watched him very closely this season and he has impressed me. In terms of technique and close control he is on another planet to Walcott. I can only imagine he would have a better return in an Arsenal side with Ozil in it.

Whats the story with Yarmalenko ? Is he another Arshavin/Rebrov/Shevchenko waiting to happen ?

I mean Everton , Spurs and Liverpool have all been supposedly close to signing him in previous windows why weren't United Chelsea and City ever after him is he good ?

He's supposed to be decent enough. But I don't believe he's good enough for us. He'd probably start for Liverpool and Everton but he'd be just ahead of Ox and maybe Theo on the wing.

For what it's worth I've seen nothing from anyone reliable saying we're interested.

Amazed at Shakira's stats, he's definitely better than that.

Yeah Shevchenko never turned out to be much good after he left Ukraine.

Jack missing almost a whole season for a minor fracture which originally didn't require surgery is pretty disappointing. I really feel like we could have benefitted from someone like him who will run at the defence this season.

Looking forward to today, need a good match after the disappointment of last weekend.

    Yeah, very disappointing for him.

Really feel he could be great in that Santi position if he gets a run of games.

Coquelin was in a fantastic vein of form before his injury. All it takes sometimes is a knock and a break to put a stop to that, we'll find out soon enough if he really is all that or was just playing out of his skin for a bit.

People always seem to be expecting/waiting for Coquelin to fail. When he started playing for the first team last season and made an instant impression, there were plenty of comments along the lines of this won't last or at least will it last. Now he's been out for a couple of months and we get the same thing.

When are people going to realise he's the genuine article?

    Today, right?

Now, the bais are back, competing for trophies starts here.

No more f*ck ups. Better win today, and better look like we mean it.

(For the record I believe we will, cos we're great.)

His absence has proved his worth every bit as much as his presence. People can't seem to get their head around the fact that players can work hard and bring their game up a notch. Look at Jamie Vardy

Would you want to sign Vardy based on one season?
We've had plenty of players over the years who were excellent for a while and then nothing. Coquelin's form came from nowhere which is why I'm concerned. Hopefully I'm wrong and he just needed to mature and improve his game reading and all that, I'm just open to the possibility that this may be a case of something that isn't at all rare and in that case we could end up pretty stuck.

I think the big thing for Coq was when he and/or Wenger realised he should play to his strengths, such as his tackling ability, and stay a bit deeper.

In the past, my memory of him is a bit more of a Flamini who wanted to get forward too much.

Rumours that Elneny is to start and Ramsey and Ozil are to be rested. Wonder whether Cech will be too?

Hopefully, it just seems we're putting a lot of hope on a player with about 1 good year behind him.
