How long for marriage cert to arrive?

Quick question if someone can please help?

I've left a message on the registry office answer phone but someone here might know. We got married in a registry office 3 weeks ago....we've not received a marriage cert and if I go online to order one it asks if I know for sure that the marriage has been registered as it was only 3 weeks ago!

My question is, do you automatically get at least one copy of your wedding cert and any idea how long it was before you got yours if you were married in a registry office?

No you have to ring the office and ask them to send it out to you. Cost €20 I think it was. 3 weeks it should be ready for you..

We got ours around the same time, but you do have to call and ask them to send it out and pay

I never even thought about getting one. I don't think I need it for anything...

I rang the office and asked someone had the marriage been registered yet, they said no but told me it would be done within the hour. I was told to wait an hour and then go onto the website and order the cert from there, its €20. You don't get one automatically, it took ten days after that for the cert to arrive. we just got ours on Tuesday.

hope that helps, when I ring the office I stay on hold as long as I can to get someone to talk to!

Out ye can press all the buttons when it gives you the option and your bound to get through to someone haha...

Sorry for the double post tis boards doing that not me.. Not sure yeah why you need one, I suppose maybe for mortgages, or if ye have kids and serious things like that.

I just got ours to have it done and dusted, made copies for things we might need it for and then might frame it :) Tis just something nice to have...

If you want to change your name with the banks, drivers licence or on passport you'll need the marriage cert!

Ah good to know.. I was kinda wondering about the name change thing. I haven't had a reason as such to change it yet but I wouldn't mind doing it

If you were stuck, I believe you can go to any registrar's office and ask them to print you one there and then. Still €20 though. :pac:

I got ours when I dropped the MRF into the office. They did it there and then.

Ah I see. I probably won't need it then.

Do you need the marriage cert for the revenue?

I think only if you are claiming a tax refund for the portion of the year on account of being joint assessed. A verbal claim is acceptable to revenue to be joint assessed going forward. (But has to be done before 1st of April) There's an IT2 form you can get from the revenue website.

Just to follow up, thanks for all the answers, they just called and yep, it's registered now and no you don't automatically get a copy when you get married, you need to go online and order one.....you'd think for 200 quid you might get one copy at least, but anyway!!

You need one to change either name....he's taking my name (!!!) so needs the marriage cert to prove we got married :-)
