Plenty to be positive about (if the goal is the same cycle we are in this past decade). But my general feeling is that we will fall short again. We have been here all too often. We could be running away with this league and be serious Champions Lge contenders with some proper investment in the team. We are 2 top players short and have always seemed to be the last I dont know how many seasons, with Ozil 27 and Sanchez 28 there at the peak of there powers (Along with Giroud 29 and Kos 30) we should really be adding real quality to compliment them. Ozil and Sanchez will be gone soon and we will be back to square one again in the rebuilding process. So frustrating.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Both Alexis and Ozil have just turned 27, so you have a few more years of them at their peak.

I'm generally laid back about the whole thing, but this is the year where Wenger should really go for it, and he doesn't seem to be. Just spend 100 million now and be done with it.

Personally, I wouldn't be shifting Walcott, he's just in a bad run of form at the moment. I'd also keep Rosicky and Mertasecker. Certainly I'd agree about Ox, Flamini and Arteta. Just personal opinions. If we were to nab that Ukranian winger, then I'd let the Ox go straight away.

Luckily this is the worse Prem Lge season since it has started or we would be miles off the top. I know injuries dont help but this happens every season to us so it should be expected. 2 signings in 4 transfer windows now, for a club challenging for there first title in 10 years and a club that charges the highest ticket prices, its laughable how there able to get away with it. Wengers loyalty to average players is whats holding the club back and unless he changes I cant see us winning another title under him.

Can I ask where you have pulled this stat from????

My apologies. 3 transfer windows. Cech and Elneny. This window, last summers and last winters window. Only 2 players, 1 being a GK.

That does sound right. Transferleague.com has he signed start of 14/15 season:rolleyes:

Using 2 January transfer windows to make a point doesn't really mean much. Right before the 3 windows you're talking about, we signed Alexis, Welbeck, Debuchy, Gabriel, Chambers etc. All (except for Debuchy, as it may turn out) long term investments in the club.

On top of that, how many first team starting lineup players have we lost in those 3 windows?

It means that when we were in a position of strengthening we chose not to. Besides that, this is the window and the last window especially is when we should of invested big money in the team. Saying that nobody was available is balderdash. That season we signed the players you mentioned above we also lost Podolski, Sagna, Vermaelan, Fabianski, Djorou etc.

We always seem to be buying to replace instead of buying to strengthen.

It's not that nobody is available. Nobody is available that suits the criteria that Wenger sets out.

I don't know what you mean by buying to replace, but not strengthen. Haven't we strengthened over the last few seasons by improving the squad with signings?

At the start of the season, it would have been fair to say we had two decent players in every position, except for a couple of notable exceptions. Only the lack of a DM in the summer can be held against Wenger. He has rectified that now.

After the Euros there'll be no value in the market.

Who cares, we'll have the Premier League title....

Don't really see how anyone can say Wenger didnt perform poorly in the Summer transfer window.

We spent 10 million. The same as Norwich, only Swansea spent less. Does anyone really think there was noone available? How did other clubs manage to add players if noone was available?

Dybala, Schneiderlinn, Mandzukic, Kongdobia, Vital off the top of my head. Fair enough most of them went to big clubs but we've a huge cash kitty, why not go all out to try compete with the big boys.

    Yeah Wenger ****ed up.
We all knew going into this season that a DM was needed badly. Yes, Coq is brilliant but his backups were a major step down in quality.

Arteta - Decent passing but has no legs and can't tackle anymore.
Flamini - World class pointing ability but can't really do much else.
Wilshere - ....... Don't even need to say.

We all knew we'd get injuries in key positions yet we didn't bolster the ranks.

Coquelin was in a fantastic vein of form before his injury. All it takes sometimes is a knock and a break to put a stop to that, we'll find out soon enough if he really is all that or was just playing out of his skin for a bit.

Not really our job to name players is it? Thats what the team of scouts are paid for. Im sure that somebody somewhere could have been got that would have strengthened the squad

Not saying that some of them were not worth a shot (and who knows if Wenger tried to buy one of those or not), but I do think we are where we are without them, and if we continue there will be more more valuable players available to us in next window.

Other clubs spent more money achieving nothing, not buying players is not a tactic, obviously, but more of a necessity at this stage.

Prices are overinflated, and waiting, imo, is a right move.

    You are so right.

And scouts and the management made decision not to buy anyone at the end.

I think they know better than I do.

We are where we are because this is a one-off league year where most of the big teams are playing ****e. If this was any other year we'd be fighting for fourth again. To match the points of last years winners we need to get 43 from 45 possible points. The previous year we would need 42 from 45.

We're 2 points better off after 23 matches than last season. Last year Chelsea were on 53 and City on 48 at the same point.

Really hope Coquelin can come back as strong as ever, who would have known he'd turn out to be vital to our title hopes.

For people wondering we're live on Setanta Ireland tomorrow from 2:30pm.

Luckily the league is a competition against the other teams in the league, not against points totals in other seasons.

Yep, and Chelsea have essentially the same team, City strengthened. Hmmmm.
