Nursing

Hi, I am currently in my 2nd year studying general nursing in ucc. All shifts in the hospital are 12 hours. You will be expected to work days, nights and weekends once qualified, at least in a hospital anyway. As a student I am doing 30 hours a week on placement, usually 2 12 hour shifts and a 6 hour shift. Shifts are normally 7.45 to around 8.15, to allow time to give the report, as a student though the shift I do is 7.45am to 7.45pm. You won't be expected to work weekends as a student although we've been told we will have to do a few nights at some point, I can't imagine that we'll have to do too many of them though! The best thing about doing 12 hour shifts is that you have more days off in the week, 3 or 4, Which is great!
