Does Boards have a culture anymore?

Are the days of yore ma being blasted with piss by an atari jaguar soon to be gone forever?

These were the most important but there were plenty more, coke and hookers, quake, swan eating poles, Trent.. Not everyone was fond of these alright, and many found them to be stupid, but they are distinctly boards tropes that used to be instantly recognisable and not to be found anywhere else, but are now falling out of use (3 pages of search results for atari jaguar from the last year compared to 10 pages for 3 years ago) and maybe there are people here now who don't have a clue what I am talking about.

Is their loss to be lamented or has the culture simply moved on? Has Boards simply developed new tropes and if so what are they?

(I wasnt sure whether to say Boards or simply AH..)

Yeah. It does have a culture.

An egg shell walking culture where bans are the currency.

It has evolved. And as with most evolution it has become something better.

Boards has become a much better place imo.

For many years I considered AH a cesspool where casual isms were the norm and stupid catch phrases were the order of the day.

It, and Boards has moved past the knuckle dragging nonsense and is much more enjoyable for it.

    IMHO.

Those were the days... Not that I was actually really part of that, but still... you knew what you were at and you kinda liked it all the same. It gives a nice warm feel of unruliness and inappropriateness just for the sake of it. Its definitely trending towards the gender balance, pc for the sake of it and oh my god we may be liable here types. The Flanders' are taking over, WE.MUST.RESIST.

IMO AH has become far, far too uptight. AH used to be a fairly South Park-ish kind of place but that was the point of it, and if you couldn't stand the heat you could just feck off.

This doesn't apply to Boards as a whole, I just find it bizarre that they've essentially forced sanitisation on a forum whose entire purpose was to be unsanitary.

You can still find the old AH online in The Journal comments section.

But if you didn't like it you could have just stayed out of it, couldn't you? Why does everything have to be sanitised these days?

Which was a relief as we'd to walk to school but we didn't have any shoes.

I saw a hilarious thread on reddit ireland earlier about a man trying to get rid of a cow out of his garden and reminded me of what AH used to be like. Sadly it's just to plain and boring here nowadays.

I would give my opinion on this but it might offend some people.

Ye seems reddit is the way to go for unruliness. Sad isn't it?

The only distinct 'cultural' trope I see on /Ireland is the hate for Boards, which can be pretty funny sometimes, but by the 2nd post it's just bitter

I would usually check r/Ireland first before coming here. Easier to get a tl:dr of Ireland.
Don't really post here except when I'm bored.

Mostly banned users with something to grind.
A lot do have a point about boards and it's censorship. Boards is very left wing.

Used to really like this place but more often than not I come here, have a look and don't post, far too many serious topics these days and they usually consist of 3 or 4 people continuing an argument over 7-8 pages!

Not enough fart threads imo :P

It's become so dull. You have very aggressive moderators and angry posters who look for arguments resulting in a generation that don't bother with it hence I'd say the average user is now 30+

To test this post a thread in the entrepreneurial and business forum saying you want to start a coffee shop/newsagent or petrol station and watch the agression.

I miss the irreverence and the banning for no material reason.

Try starting a risqué thread in AH these days...

I miss when AH was all about brummytom making those first curious steps into adulthood and wondering when he'd get laid.

Ah good times. T'was like the English version of Feeky. :pac:

The whole buzzword thing is a bit like the current 'Be like Bill' thing on facebook.

'Yore Ma' and 'Blast it with p1ss' were actually funny for a couple weeks then got overused and became an annoyance.

Have to admit I preferred AH when it wasn't quite as PC but such is life, things move on.

The whole of boards has gone this way, not just AH. Galway City used to be up there with the funniest and best subforums, because people legitimately didn't care and it was great. Now.. it's just this egg-shell laden mess, with so many posters far too easily triggered. /r/ireland seems t be where to go for the fun.

    Loser culure?

Or at least something amiss which we're trying to cover up with humour / angry, to the death debates :)
