It must have been the other way around I was thinking. It looks like you can spec keyless without alarm now (but only on 5 door for some unknown reason). It doesn't make much sense as I had a 3 door GTI in 2013 and I did spec the alarm + keyless.

I bought mine last year and I wanted an alarm (always had one on every single car I owned; I couldn't believe it didn't come as standard for a GTi/GTD) and had to pay for keyless - came to about €1500..

When I bought last year I specced keyless and the alarm gets added automatically but it was listed at the time as a stand alone option about 350 euro I think.
A bit crazy if you can't get an alarm as an option now. VW seem to have a funny way of organising options and the dealers don't seem to know much more than the punters in this regard.

    Indeed, the mind boggles!

It's expensive but not that expensive! Keyless + alarm is about 650-700.

    Yeah
Keyless plus alarm was about 750 give or take 20 euro

Sorry - I might have been mistaken on the price.. I added so much spec the mind is a blur :P

Nevertheless, the lack of an alarm on a car of that value makes no sense..

Even less with 161 tech pack which included keyless. At least it did for 5 door cars!

Surprise surprise, I have got myself an alarm from VW. It doesn't include keyless and I'm getting it for €350, the salesman, (who I have drove demented over the last 3 weeks), contacted the "golf product expert" in Ireland and he came back with a '3 door car alarm system with autolock". So now I have it I hope I'll never hear it!

Great! VW Ireland aren't the worst to be fair - it's the factory that are refusing you the keyless option for whatever reason. VW Ireland can and will spec anything that's allowed by the factory in my experience.

    The "Autolock" is the deadlocks.

Does that mean that if you pushed you could get things like electric memory seats, dynamic light assist etc that aren't officially listed here for the golf, if you pushed for them?

Exactly! You just need to do a bit of research and find the option code for the option(s) you want. I know of a few guys who spec'd dynamic light assist and I even know the code off the top of my head lol - "PFB".

You bring that option code to your flexible dealer and, assuming he doesn't know anything about it, you ask him to contact the "product team" to get it added to your order. I did this for the "MODE" button in the R, but by the time my car was built VW Ireland had made it standard spec anyway.

I don't think electric seats are a runner though - I don't think any European market offers them in the GTI/R. In general, if you can't get a particular option it'll be a factory refusal rather than VW Ireland (as is the case with the 3 door and keyless for example).

Ah yeah, very happy with it... but tbh there's been times in the last while if I've questioned whether it's worth it - the monthly repayments and just today I had to tax it! "Grim January" isn't helping ;)

At least fuel prices are at an all time low!

Well done on getting the alarm! I collected my 3dr PP GTI at the beginning of the month having ordered it last October. At the time the salesman told me that the alarm was not available on the 3dr as the keyless access was no longer on it and I would have to get one fitted independently.

I suppose a boards R/GTI/GTD meet at some stage when people get sorted would be very childish?! There's a fair selection here now at this stage.

Yeah I'm glad to have it, otherwise I would probably have gone down the independent route myself. Just goes to show the lack of knowledge some sales people have about their product or else how they're not prepared to properly seek out answers. In fairness my salesman pretty much had his homework done on the GTI.
Anyway how are you finding the car? Is it all you expected?

I traded in a two year old VW Scirocco Sport TDI for it and the difference between the two is like night and day. The step up in the materials used in the interior of the GTI is impressive compared to the Scirocco and the interior lighting and infotainment is excellent IMO. It is a brilliant all rounder especially now that they come with the adaptive cruise control, which I find superb for motorway driving. I have yet to take it out on a twisty road due to the exceptionally poor weather we have been getting here the past few weeks..It is my 4th GTI (MK2,MK4,MK5) and I would rate it second to the MK2 in terms of driving enjoyment.

Did you spec DSG or manual?

I've been following this thread for a while. Picked up my Mk7 5 door GTI last week, loving it. Had a few GTIs in the past but have been in diesel sciroccos for the last few years, glad to be back in the Golf. Just on alarms, can anyone recommend a good retro fit alarm as unfortunately I didn't spec one at the time of ordering? I have been lucky in the past and have never had hassle from scumbags, I guess I have become complacent.

I went for the manual, have a 142 2.0tdi r line golf at the moment, so I'll be gaining 80 horses! It's my first GTI so really looking forward to it....a long 12 weeks to come!

Had the car serviced today. All good, but they said app connect would be 300 ish euro.

Does anyone have android auto on here? I love my tech but really can't justify 300 quid on some software.

I'd be interested but would depend where ! we do seem to have a decent amount of owners now too which is cool. I rarely see fellow GTIs about the place though.

It's excellent, but since you already have nav it's not worth the €300 outlay. Bar Google maps and being able to use WhatsApp it doesn't offer much more over the standard interface. If you didn't have nav I'd say get it but in your case I wouldn't bother.

Where are you based ondafly? I see a couple of GTI'S regularly between Bray/Dundrum on M50/M11

I as going to suggest this some time ago, but afraid it would be shot down, or worse Ignored.

I ordered a 1.6 highline in Nov with Xenon and lane assist expecting to get the dynamic light assist.
Dec the dealer contacted me to say the car can't be configured with xenon and lane assist and would have to drop one of them.
I dropped the lane assist with the result no dynamic light assist just light assist (bendy lights and high beam assist)
Delivery delayed by 4 weeks, I wasn't a happy bunny at all.
