Very easy really to get android on wetek, just copy three files to microsd and insert into wetek, then press reset on bottom using a pin and apply the power while holding the pin ..and follow on screen instructions to setup box .

    see here for android files

    https://wetek.com/downloads

    and some instructions

    http://wetekforums.com/v/index.php?p=discussion/18266/solved-openelec-back-to-android

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USTCmnM-7KE

IMO Android is best option if all you want is some apps plus TV say to give you a smart tv

    Hope this helps

I'd you out android on it it will not revert to openelec. You can sideboot openelec from an SD card though.

    Just one question:

I've downloaded the firmware zip from the Wetek Download page linked but what about the recovery.img and .aml file - where do I get them?

I noticed that some addon repositories did not contain all of the addons they should contain when I installed them on the wetek.

In the end I had to force refresh them so that all of the addons in a particular repository showed up correctly.

So if you are following online instructions and are not seeing particular addons in a repository then do a force refresh of the repository by selecting the repository (in Get Addons) and pressing the menu button on the remote (button with three horizontal lines)

It was a strange one for me. Never have this issue on Kodi on Raspberry Pi - Could it be because the Wetek is running version 14 rather than 15?

Extract the zip file to a folder and there is another zip and the img and aml files also.

If you auto update Openelec then you'll have version 15.2 included

    Hmmmm.... I'm not seeing them..

Downloaded 'DB-J699-wetek-ota-2015-11-25_18-45-55.zip' on Wetek page as indicated below:

    Screen_Shot_2016_01_26_at_23_38.jpg

Then extracted given zip file once downloaded (arrow indicating it below) and not listed in the contents when I extract it:

Check the youtube clip above, Basq. There are links in the description. It's the July 2015 release but you can update it to the newer one afterwards.

Sorry, I didn't double check the link you were downloading.

Here are the files you need (Mega Link, usually better with Chrome).

    Cheers guys.

Yeah, I saw the links in the YT vids.. I just wondered whether there's a new version of those img and aml files specifically for that newer Android update on Wetek's Download page.

I'll go with the links mentioned so.. thanks again!!

If your mixing your installations, make sure you edit the AML file and ensure that the right zip file name is in there.

Try the link "Download WeTek OS 1.1.6" on this page

    http://linuxsat-support.com/showthread.php?t=98625

(maybe proper to the other wetek support thread and apologies to linuxsat )

See? so easy....Android turns the wetek into the 149 euro wetek play (if u include sd and rcu) ...highlighting the real saving in Aqous76s' Group buy. And... you still get Kodi and most of its abilities!

a fantastic piece of kit but openelec and vdr / tvheadend are not for beginners:eek:.

I have FOMO again! Would I be right in thinking that if I wanted to have this I'd have to scrap the Openelec set-up I have now and start from scratch again?

Does this have a working EPG or is it now and next only? I had a look around at a few reviews, but it's not that clear

I haven't had a chance to try set mine up yet but just wondering..

if I got the Wetek up and running correctly with tvheadend, VDR or Enigma2, how would this box compare to the likes of the VU+ Solo2?

Understand the VU+ is 3 times the price but just wondering if the VU+ is 3 times better or if the Wetek holds it own against higher spec Linux receivers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

No it's not the same. You get what you pay for. I find my wetek perfect fit my needs, but it does lag a little and isn't user friendly to set up at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,137 ✭✭✭Glen_Quagmire

Ok get you, the price alone indicates they are miles away from each other but I said I'd ask anyway as they are getting good reviews everywhere.

Depending on how I get on with the wetek on the satellite side, I'll probably end up just using it for kodi as it's running smoothly so far with everything I've played and buying a good Linux receiver like the VU+

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭stanley1

enigma2 is a doddle to set up on a linux receiver, most development teams have nightly updates.
