What's the story with these boxes lads?

I'm reading police have clamped down on them in England.

While it's legal to sell them surely the content been watched is illegal?

Your probably talking about boxes from China that come with kodi preloaded with lots of links to illegal content. These boxes also come with kodi but are not setup so what you put on them is up to you. I'd imagine this is what the they are clamping down on, not WeTek boxes. By themselves they are 100% legal.

These ones are 100% clean, they come with with a basic openelec/kodi installation , nothing dodgy what so ever. What gets added on after that is up to you.

If they choose to 'clampdown' on them they might as well seize every phone, tablet, laptop and pc too as they can all run the same software to do the same thing and more, and while they are at it apple tv , amazon fire sticks.

That said, it would be no harm for them to go after the guys selling pre-loaded boxes and fleecing people , might save a few fools form themselves.

I picked mine up late last night, when powered on it was stuck in a boot loop.

So within 5 minutes of owning a new device I had it taken apart and reset the internal sim card.

Once this was done it booted up fine, suppose it pays to read old threads because as far as I remember somebody else had the same problem :D

Neither are boxes. They're accessories for a box that costs over €100. The box we bought is a bit different and cost €63 in a group buy thanks to Aquos76. Seriously, if I was you I wouldn't even think of buying until doing research and getting comfortable with Kodi.

But surely the streaming and watching of sky sports is illegal seems its not been paid for?

    Yes that would be illegal.

It isn't illegal to sell a blank box. Also the Wetek can be used to get Saorview. Nothing illegal about that.

    That's what I meant.

Just like the dodgy boxes years ago they will find a way to clamp down on them.

They will and they do, which is why I point blank refuse to look at boxes belonging to friends or family or even give advice on buying them outside of warning them off them. Even turning down money!!!!

The minute I do that , i'll get a call every once in a while to say something doesn't work when the sources go dead or the quality is rubbish , and can I come and fix it. They expect 1080p sports etc for free to last forever as if it was netflix. I'm not into sports but I imagine thats nearly a full time job finding and updating m3u lists.

Just last week a major, if not one of the biggest add-ons for movies and tv was dead in the water and no longer being worked on and developed, and it's likely on 100% of boxes pre-loaded with dodgy stuff. Won't name it but we all know what it is. Point is preloaded boxes are great until they don't work and you paid well over the odds for what takes a 5 minute youtube video to learn how to do, but people are either lazy or afraid to tinker and I say to anyone wanting to get one of these and isn't willing to learn not to bother.

Well I'm glad I don't even open these things when I facilitate these group buys, I just repackage them and send them out again :)

At the moment under eu law it's not illegal to view copy righted content by streaming,as streaming is only classed as temporary possession

That doesn't make much sense. Kind of like going into a video rental store, picking a DVD off the shelf and watching it for free, then telling the store owner its legal cos I only watched it for 90 minutes and put it back.

It's not classed as legal, and it's not because you only have temporary posession.

It's still very much a grey area iirc. A court in Germany deemed streaming 'not illegal' because there wasn't a physical file downloaded that could be transferred.
At the time there were a load of people being brought to court every week in Germany for downloading torrents.
I think one news source ran with the 'streaming pirate movies is legal', and everyone chose to believe them because it suited them.

    That was 2013 I think.

    Then in October 2015 - https://torrentfreak.com/is-streaming-pirated-movies-illegal-eu-court-to-decide-151012/

    Follow up in December 2015 - https://torrentfreak.com/dutch-court-wont-ban-pirate-streaming-boxes-yet-151204/

I would imagine the reason that many houses were raided in the UK last year, is the same reason many will probably get raided in Ireland.

Has anyone got advice on how to balance the sound when using the wetek box. I am always fiddling between the TV and the box but can't seem to get it right. Sometimes the TV has to be at max. I'm constantly moving volume up down. Anyone else got this problem. I also experimented with volume amplification on the wetek box.

Yea have the exact same thing. When using kodi I've to have the TV full, and pbenigma at about 20 on the tv its perfect volume.

This group buy will be carried out again via an email address rather that through PM, aren't we lucky I did it that way last week with boards been offline for a few days and still it's not back 100%

Anyway, please don't PM me your interest, when I'm ready to go ahead, I'll post up the email again. Thanks
