it was fairly clear after 5 minutes that the team didnt believe they could win. Mert was a complete tool to do what he did.

Hard to see this team winning the league but we still could

    Too many lately.

Just as at the Bridge, the game swung on the red card. 2 poor decisions have cost us points.

My level of disgust and disappointment with Mert is indescribable in words

In all fairness with the injuries I always thought it would take a miracle.

Loosing youre 2 1st choice cm and Sanchez would decimate any team.

Spurs could overtake us next game:(

Was there any contact for the red? Really didn't look like it to me.

Disappointing, but utterly predictable. We are mentally bankrupt, a team that doesn't believe in itself.

This Chelsea team who've languished at the bottom end of the table all season have done the double over us. Well done Wenger.

We're now 3 points behind Leicester and worryingly only 2 ahead of Spurs.

Are we really progressing in terms of winning the league? This was a bottle job up there with anything over the last number of years

There's far more to Spurs now. We are too timid and can't hack a fight.
We should have been scratching at the doors of the traps to get at them from the kick-off. Instead we stood off them, were afraid to tackle and surrendered home advantage to them. Mert was stupid but I am putting this down to Wenger. We were not up for a fight and that's down to him imo.

Disappointing, but any keyboard warrior that slates that team after that second half performance would want to take a good look at themselves. Serious effort and performance...didn't find the goal unfortunately. 2 years ago that was a 5-0 defeat. that wasn't 'typical' Arsenal.

How the fùck are we only 7 points ahead of Man Utd?

I think it's fair to say that injuries have once again plagued our season. Cazorla and Coquelin are badly missed, Alexis out also hurt us. The one transfer we wanted Wenger to make was to get another CDM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭emergingstar

Now we can all be disgusted with the performance

But let's not go down the we won't win the league we haven't progressed route

Ah it's all excuses. Is anyone genuinely convinced we'd have won that if it was 11 v 11? We'd still have found a way to shoot ourselves in the foot.

We dont have the bottle to win the league. We still have to go to City, United, Spurs. United are a jokeshop but we'd find a way to lose.

Wenger will never win the league again.

Too loyal to too many players. Mert, Ox, Theo all not good enough. But the stubborn Wenger won't spend.

    Utterly pissed off.

Unfortunately it's the first half that counted today.
    We never left the traps.
We allowed them have the ball and control midfield and we seemed like we had no game-plan at all. We should have been stuck into them from the get go. We should never play a high line with Mert in the team. We have seen what happens on many occasions when we do. I am blaming Wenger.

    Well said.

Any talking about bottle or not turning up either didn't watch that half, or doesn't understand what they are talking about.

There were issues today - I would ask why we bought Elneny if Flamini is still going to start games of this importance, and I would ask what the f*** Per was thinking - but bottle wasn't one of them, and it's embarassing to see actual Arsenal fans saying things like that.

    Serious effort and performance, really?

We must have been watching a different game because I thought we were pretty awful, particularly in central mid and upfront of course.

What did you see that suggested we played so well?

Other than seeing Sanchez back with his infectious attitude I saw no positives at all.

I implied we would have had a much better chance with Coq and Cazorla in the midfield over that. Flaming just runs around like a headless chicken, and Ramsey is a great player, but he isn't the playmaker who controls the game.

Gutted after that but I knew we wouldn't beat them, it's just something we don't do. Ramsey and Theo were absolutely shocking today, no first touch on either of them and stupid decisions made left right and centre. Our title hopes are looking grim now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭emergingstar

Coq and Welbeck and Rosicky should be back for the game after Burnley in the cup

We should be a different animal then

    (Hopefully)

You always do and it gets tiring and repetitive and ignores some of the more obvious things you should be seeing.

The only positive that I can take from the last few matches is that we are only 3 points off the top. We deserve to be further behind with how poor and inconsistent we have been lately.

  • Moderators Posts: 8,900 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Gutted, although can't complain with the effort - the lads put it all in but it's borderline impossible playing with ten, not least when your only source of holding a ball up and bringing others into play is the man taken off. Can't get my head around it at all. If it wasn't his ten year anniversary, Theo would have been hooked and rightly so.

The problem though will be at some stage if we're still in it we'll have to win games like today when the pressure is seriously on us

We are still in the mix.

    Its still in our hands.

We don't do it now we never will.

Looked very much like a dive to me.

Which means we've had 3 red cards this season, 2 of which were against Costa and should not have been awarded.

Was absolutely ragging for the vast majority of the match. Have calmed down now slightly since the beers have been started. Extremely disappointing performance. There were many candidates for worst players in red today. Playing the guts of 80 minutes with 10 players was never going to help. I found myself doing a double take when I was agreeing with Souness, when he was saying no contact was made and Costa made the most of it by rolling 52 times and screaming as if he'd be shot. Most hated player in football at the moment is definitely Costa.

Anyhow moving on the lads did try. I would agree with a lot of people, it wasn't the usual capitulation we'd normally see. I thought, down to ten men, Costa is of course gonna score, he did and I thought this has a cricket score written all over it! I'm glad I was proven wrong at least in that respect. They battled away in the second half and had a couple of half decent chances that we should have done better with, Flam had a couple of chances, while not easy on another day might have ended up in the back of the net. I was shocked when Wenger took Giourd off and left Walcott and Campbell on. One of them had to go off. The amount of times where a cross came in and nobody was in the box today was criminal. So that was a major f*ck up by Wenger I think.

The match is done, Leicester are leading by 3 points but still have to play us and City away. The season does not end after a poor defeat to one of our boggy teams. For me it will on depend on how we respond to this. Hopefully Alexis can go and find some form now that he's back from his injury. He did seem to make quite the difference when he came on (even if he misplaced a few passes).
