    Hi fellow classic car fans,

Just thought in the light of all this car insurance debacle and suchlike it would be a bit of fun to dream a little for a change.

So, which 5 cars from the 1970s would like to fill your garage with, if money wasn't an issue as such?

To get the ball rolling, these are my top 5 (at the moment!):

    Alfa Romeo Montreal
    Triumph Stag
    Plymouth Roadrunner (1972)
    Chevrolet Chevelle SS (1970)
    Mercedes 450 SLC

Nice choices! Is the Fiat 131 the same as the Mirafiori? My uncle had one of them and I thought it was really cool, especially with a name like that! :)

Brilliant, that's a nice little collection you've got there! :)

The Fiat is a really stylish looking car, I wouldn't mind one myself!

Can't believe I made that mistake. Yes a W111 Coupe in silver preferably.

Will have to make do with my W114 saloons until I have a lotto win!!

I can easily put together Top 200, but I think Top five would look like this (no particular order and basically random cars from that imaginary Top 200 list of mine):

    5

doesn't matter which series (probably series 3, because the rear lights are a bit nicer). Definitely with the knock off wheels from Miura.

    Pilarless

    cadi197060specialspartacusbluefiremist.jpg

    3

Longchamp as well, for daily driving...

I think the early 70s Mangustas had different headlights...

...last picture of that Daytona. No bumpers, wide wheels covered in brake dust, dirt from the exhaust above the tips... The ultimate driving machine.

no words to describe this beautiful automobile.

    great video from Petrolicious:

    Aston Martin V8 vantage volante
    Ford falcon XY GTHO
    Detomassa pantera
    BMW E3 3.0 csl
    Toyota landcruiser FJ Ute

If i did own these i might modernise some of them a little, the gtho could benefit from disc brakes and the newer v8 diesel would be nice in the cruiser plus some of the more obvious things like power steering etc

Yeah, installing a 4.5 litre 1VD-FTV in the Landcruiser would make for a mighty restomod project!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

Yeah, if i were to do something like that it would be a Full mechanical swap.

I missed out a few years ago and i still regret not doing it, there was a 2004 BA falcon for sale on one site and a mk4 zodiac on another. Would have been an epic summer build but i dithered about it for too long

I know what you mean Tzar. You could of course just try and find a good 1ufze engine and shove that into any classic of your liking! :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

Well restromoddin should really be a full mechanical swap IMO.

Mate of mine tried the 'easy' engine swap a while ago, put a 4.0 v8 from an e32 into an e30 318. No other changes, and was rather surprised one evening to find himself arseways in a ditch staring at a puddle of oil on the road which contained the remains of his diff

Ah yes, you would of course want to match any engine upgrade with the appropriate drive train, suspension and brake upgrades as well, not to mention potentially needing to strengthen the chassis to cope with the added torque.

Now I only need to find the budget, which probably will be the hardest thing with this kind of restomod!! ;)

I would love to shove a 1uz motor into an ra27 fastback celica. I've always felt that the cars looks were writing cheques its 1600cc ass couldn't cash

Yeah that would be special! Now all you need is an LS400 donor car and a manual gearbox out of a Supra, the rest is just technical details!! ;)
