Paying no tax after working abroad?

Is it true you don't pay tax for 6 months if you Return to Ireland after working abroad?

I worked in Ireland for 3 years between 2010 and 2013. I then worked abroad for 2 years.

I returned in September, and I have recently got a new job, with my first pay date in two weeks. Will I have to pay tax?

If so do I need to fill out any forms etc.? If it makes a difference, I am an Irish national.

Yes, you will pay tax as it's a new tax year so you won't have an accumulation of tax credits

Make sure your employer has your PPS number

It is not true. It's a complicated subject, ask accountant for proper advice. Here is a random opinion from the internets tho - the 6 month things refers to tax residency, but money earned in Ireland will be taxed in Ireland.

Hasn't the 6 months been changed, such that you can be taxed in Ireland if you spend 4 months of the calendar year in Ireland (possibly including UK)?

Thats a pity, but thought it was a long shot anyway.

I've given my PPS number so hopefully there'll be no problems.

Have you contacted revenue to get your credits set up?

Not yet but I will first thing on Monday.
