A petition to have Conor McGregor's image featured on the €1 coin will today be considered at the Oireachtas.
UFC superstar McGregor has had another sensational year, claiming the featherweight title after his explosive 13-second knockout victory over Jose Aldo in December and aiming to now become the first fighter to hold two UFC belts at different weight divisions simultaneously.
It was confirmed on Tuesday night that the Dubliner will take on Rafael Dos Anjos for the lightweight title in March.
A petition to have the fighter appear on the €1 coin was received by the Oireachtas in mid-December and will be discussed by the Public Petitions Committee at Leinster House this afternoon.
Petitions on personal data, cycle lanes, border control, and school access are also on the agenda.

Committee chairman, Pádraig MacLochlainn TD, confirmed: “Our first meeting of 2016 will allow the committee to consider and action a further group of petitions submitted by members of the public.
"We will discuss a petitioner’s request that sports personality Conor McGregor feature on the €1 coin.”
McGregor has become a phenomenon of the sport, with the colourful fighter now a global star after what has been a furious rise to the top.
The 27-year-old tweeted: "It would be a true honour for me to be immortalised on the €1 coin! Thank you to my fans for the petition! Let's go Oireachtas! Vote yes."

Is this a p!ss take or what? Surely if there was a need to change the €1 coin someone else would be more deserving?

Who would you put on the coin?

The story isn't a pisstake? The way it's reported is 100% accurate - the oireachtas will consider the petition submitted to them. It doesn't mean McGregor is going to appear on coins.

Like someone who achieved something more for Ireland than being good at beating other people up. And, generally, being c*ntish outside of the octagon.

€1 coins are for peasants. I don't handle anything less than a crisp €50 note.

Is it for every 1€ coin or just a limited edition run of 1000 or something? If it's just a limited run it's still cringe at this point in time, but it could be a nice little earner, charge 100 euro a coin or whatever and make a nice profit off the nuthuggers, they can then sell them on later too if McGregor gets even more famous, everybody wins

Sure we're all c**t* outside the octagon! So long as you haven't been locked up or cost the state millions of euro you should be in with a shout.
