Technically yes, but St.Louis is in my opinions a better home for the team. LA and the NFL just dont seem like a good fit. Was hoping the Raiders would take up the option. LA suits them better.

Anyway as a 49ers fan I always hated yee wherever you played :pac:

So whats the team tonight? Nothing strange I assume

    Cech
    Bellerin Mert Kos Monreal
    Flamini Ramsey
    Walcott Ozil Campbell
    Giroud

Will be interesting to see what kinda team Liverpool are able to put out tonight. We will be tested anyway regardless as it's rarely an easy game at Anfield. Stoke away at the weekend too.
We haven't been great away from home the last month or so, so hopefully this changes tonight.

The back 4 and keeper picks themselves, but I'm wondering what way Wenger will go at it in midfield? Will he pick Chambers, Flamini or even Arteta to partner Ramsey? Giroud, Walcott and Campbell will definitely start IMO as well.

I'll take a tight 2 1 win tonight, will be nervy as well. The soccer forum would be unbearable if we lose tonight!

I would be very surprised if Flamini doesnt play, unless he is carrying a knock of some sort.

I for one will be watching this through my fingers. We should win on paper but when has that ever stopped us.

but I thought Cech was setting all sorts of records for clean sheets...

I dont think if we had been playing Coquelin all the time recently we would be sitting on top of the PL. Coquelin deserves his place in the squad and as a rotation player but he wont win you games. He wont lost you the game but he wont win it for you.

Yeah. Have that bad feeling I haven't had in a while.

    *slaps self in face*

F***in Mesut Ozil, man. Relax, this'll be deadly.

What I posted shows simply that we are expected to concede more goals without Coq. That's all it means.

Sure, Cech got a record, because he's a great keeper and has played in the prem for ages. Nothing to do with what I posted though.

I don't know if it's the job of a DM to win you games, or not lose you games. It is their job to stop you from conceding goals, and what I posted shows that.

Sure, we've played well, scored goals and won games. Us scoring goals isn't anything to do with Coq being injured. Interesting that you think that us having Coq playing as opposed to Flamini would have probably made us worse.

I take your point , the Coquelin stat is interesting but Im just holding it up to mirror where we sit top of the PL, back in the CL race, and still in the Cup.

And Flamini hasnt played every minute that Coquelin has been out, Flamin hasnt been the only replacement to step in to cover for Coquelin.
I think the fact Wenger had to rotate a bit more, rely on others and adapted his system in a few games cos Coquelin was out has stood to us.

Having seen Coquelins style of play , I just dont accept we would be in as good a position if he had been avail and playing regularly given he was a 1st choice.

    Looking forward to tonight.
If it was a full strength Liverpool side I think we would have beaten them cos they are very poor.
But with all their injuries they are very un-predictable. Still reckon it could be a hiding , 0-3 or 0-4 I reckon.

Just to be clear, are you saying we would have been worse off had Coquelin been fit ?

Think tonight's game will be a lot tougher than some people are expecting, Liverpool will be quite good at upsetting the team's rhythm.

There's not really been a good performance in the league since City even if a few wins were dug out, nice to see that change tonight.

Remember Coquelin got injured on Nov 12th in a 2-1 loss to WBA, Arsenal were sitting 4th in the league. His last match before that was 5-1 loss to Bayern and we were in danger of going out of the CL

We would have been worse off had Coquelin been fit and Wenger had relied on him as much as he had been doing.
It depends if Wenger would have been overly loyal to him and continued to play him everytime he was fit and avail.

The fact he wasnt forced Wengers hand into doing some things and playing players and formations that he would not have chosen if Coquelin was avail and I dont think we would have be sitting on top of the xmas tree as we speak.

Coincided with Sanchez's absence too. Sell him imo

The game was nil all at the time and early in the game and we went on to lose.
After that we drew at Norwich, beat Villa and got wiped at Southampton so 4 points from 4 away games which is pretty lousy return when you consider the teams we played.

    okay you win
Coquelin got injured we were sitting in 4TH place in the PL and in danger of CL exit
Since he got injured we have moved to top of the PL and thru to next round of CL

you win , if he hadnt gotten injured we would be doing better than top of the PL, and CL progress, we might also be top of La Liga or Serie A and into next round of the Copa Del Rey ...

You make literally no sense :p

By your logic, we are top of the league, you can't do better than that. No point signing anybody because we're already the best possible.

Were we even discussing whether to sign anyone ?
We were discussing opinions on how much we missed Coquelin and the impact his loss has had !!!!

Im not sure how you made the conection you did.
Of course it made no sense to you, you confused a discussion of an existing player with a discussion of buying a player.

But if you want to start a discusion on wethere we need to buy a player , go right ahead.

By your logic, all we need to do is keep Coq out of the team and we'll win the league.

Goes to show how much we've missed Coquelin, and how well we've done despite this.

    That's a very suspect stat.

It's basically one extra goals every two games, or about 3 goals across the sample.

but you'd need to adjust for playing the same 11 pretty much all the way through Christmas

and you'd need to consider the Southampton outlier. If that doesn't happen, we actually have the same defence according to the stat, which would be wrong.

Shots on target or shots from prime positions would be much more relevant.

I think we have been weaker but tbh it hasn't translated into goals conceded really.

All I did was provide a few facts.

I am very happy with how things are going but I would be happier if Sanchez and Coquelin were both in the team.

Those expected goals against take into account all those things, don't they? It's not just an average of goals conceded. It takes into account chances we are allowing the opposition, and how good those chances are.

Regardless, we have improved in the league despite injuries to key players such as Coq, not because of it.

Absolutely, the team have done fantistically but it's clearly not sustainable

Funny how playing a similar 11 over Christmas can be used as a disadvantage when it suits while having a "settled" starting line-up was used as a positive not so long ago.
