I've been posting on Genealogy regarding the absence of the names of CoI Godparents on archived baptism records. The RC records do record the sponsors' names. Can anyone advise if there is a separate record kept in the CoI of Godparents' names? If not in the past, then are they being recorded at present? Also, if not, why not?

not aware of any, C of I, while being really sticky about record keeping on everything else (inc attendance and who did what in a service) godparents at a baptism slipped the net

Just what I was thinking too martin. Great records otherwise though.

Large number of views. No information though. I wonder will the CoI consider recording the godparents in the future, because if they are not important, then why have them at all?

I believe the new forms have a section for godparents. I know they were sometimes recorded anyway but at the discretion of the minister.

That's good news Swanner. Nice to know. Doesn't help my research though, sadly. :)
