How to buy shares in Bank of Ireland?

    Apologies for asking what's probably a very simplistic question but I'm interested in buying shares in BoI as a potential long-term investment and don't have a clue how to go about it.

    What's the simplest/cheapest way to do it? Do I need a BoI account? I'm with AIB if that makes any difference.

    What bank account you have makes no difference.

    You need to set up a stockbroker account. The easiest and cheapest, in my opinion, is currently with Degiro. Google them and search for information here on Boards about them. Once you have an account opened, you'll have to transfer money to it. With that money, you can then place an order to buy BoI shares, or any other shares you wish.

    I second Degiro. They have decent customer support too. I called them once and they were great

    They are the cheapest for small purchases too AFAIK

    Why are they so cheap, is there slippage on the price? Are they ECN? I doubt it, always a catch

    I would more ask why are Goodbody, Davy etc so expensive. No harm for someone to 'shake up the market'

    Wouldn't touch Davy or Goodbody - there systems are very poor,

    Your broker doesn't have to be in Ireland.
