These flash in the pan strikers that we see in the league nearly every season very rarely work out. Wouldn't be happy with Vardy (not that we'll go near him), half a good season isn't exactly "proven".

It's just the way it goes. Anyone close to 20 goals will get Arsenal fans calling for their signature. Darren Bent, Charlie Austin, Vardy, whoever.

    They're rarely rarely correct.

As for PL proven, it's a myth. The only great striker that was PL proven before a move was Shearer to Newcastle.

Everyone else came from abroad or from youth ranks.

    van Persie :(

    van Persie :(

True but the tag 'clearly world class' kind of took it.

I mean he wasn't some so so that people needed to say 'oh he's PL proven too' to argue the case for him.

Maybe you could say Tevez too come to think of it. But again clearly amazing. Having played in the premier league had nothing to do with it.

I think PL proven is basically saying 'this guy isn't that great', otherwise you wouldn't need to say it.

Was hoping elneny would be signed by now so he would be ready for Sunderland

    Highly unlikely now

This transfer would be fantastic if it happened. I think Rabiot has the potential to be world class, and is not far off being that at the moment. Hopefully it will be a permanent signing, but I wouldn't refuse a loan which is the most likely outcome.

Don't know these players but would wonder if he's world class potential why he's not getting a game with his present team.

He's made nearly 100 appearances for PSG (in all comps) and he's only 20, that's in a midfield packed with world class players like veratti, matuidi and pastore. Doing well for himself so far and has looked pretty good the handful of times I've seen him play.

One of them times being against Real Madrid in the CL a couple of months ago and despite the loss he played a stormer imo.

    Elneny is pretty much done.
I've heard from nobody concrete on Raibot or Aub.

Does anyone else feel that Elneny is on hold because Wenger prefers Rabiot?

Kinda similar to the way Higuan was on hold while Wenger flirted with Suarez.

Lets just hope this time we don't end up neither when really we need both.

They're both too very different players though. Yes, they play the same position but there approach is quite different.

I honestly don't see us signing Rabiot.. Maybe a loan at best. Elneny is a done deal and at this point its just a matter of days.

I think it's just the work permit holding things up to be honest. No reason why he wouldn't be interested in both though maybe. Am I right in saying Rabiot isn't a straight up DM?

Arteta and Flamini are likely gone in the summer, Rosicky too so there'll be room in the squad. Plus Wilshere is becoming Diaby's replacement by the looks of things I'm sorry to say.

Think it was announced that Elneny was granted his working visa, not sure how reliable the sources touting that are though.

As far as I know Rabiot is a box to box midfielder, a very good playmaker and isn't afraid to have a strike either. I know he's played DM and quite well too but I don't think it's his first position.

Yeah heard he got the work permit sorted.

Yes, Caz, Rambo, Ozil, Coq are our future midfield options and Caz is getting old.

Seen a Barcelona scout bigging him up the other day.

    Probably missed our chance.

Happy enough Alexis isn't being rushed back. We should have enough to beat Liverpool as is tbh and I'd rather have Alexis miss another couple of weeks and be tip top for the business end than rush him back and have him gone again for another 6 weeks.

Excellent about Arteta too; fair enough he's finished at the highest level but his contributions in a leadership and experience capacity will be key. One of the best signings we ever made.

but perhaps behind Seaman, Wright, Smith, Henry, Bergkamp, Vieira, Dixon, Winterburn, Bould, Ozil, Sanchez, Cech, Kos, Monreal, Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Limpar, Bellerin..... :D and a few more no doubt

Considering the shape the club were in at the time after the 8-2 and under massive pressure for 4th place the way Arteta came in and steadied the veritable ship forming two very good partnerships with first Alex Song and secondly Aaron Ramsey where he reinvented himself as a holding midfielder, I'd be of the opinion he was pivotal to get us to where we are now. A season out of the Champions League could have been catastrophic. No Ozil, no Sanchez...

And all for £10m and we even stiffed him on wages.
