Hi, I know this is a bit of a vague enquiry, but what is the best way of researching potential employment opportunities in Ireland for someone looking to return after 4 years in the UK?

I work in automotive manufacturing and want to move back home, partly because I don't want to be stuck in automotive and pigeonholed. Is it best to try speaking to recruitment consultants to get an idea of what's out there?

I am not even sure what salary to expect, or how transferrable my experience is. I imagine with a bit of patience I could maybe get a job in pharma or consultancy for €35-40k, but am I just kidding myself?? Really have very little idea of what my prospects realistically are or what could help.

Anyone else who has moved home to get a job in a different area of their industry who could share tips? Thanks! :)

Recruitment agencies would certainly be an option but I would be doing as much research as possible before tailoring a cv to the line of work you would like before approaching agencies.

Are you on LinkedIn? Connect with as many people that you know from childhood, college etc, hopefully someone will be in the industries you are targeting and might be able to answer a few questions on the state of that industry.

I am in the same situation as yourself except i work in IT. Most of the jobs in my area are Dublin based which is not an option as rent is just to expensive in that region. Agencies can be hit and miss be very careful when dealing with some of them.

Your best bet is keeping going threw the job sites most days it will give you a good feel for things . Best of luck with it.
