Let's (re)learn Irish!

Following on from the recent Irish language threads, I spent some time Googling last night, and found that, fairly quickly, much of my Irish vocabulary came back (though I still didn't have a clue what was going on with most sentences' grammar).

It really brought home to me just how much Irish is in my head somewhere, albeit buried deep, from spending 14 or so years learning the subject.

Rather than relying on elitist Gaelgor hipsters, or those circle-jerking miseryguts poets in Aosdána*, I was thinking that we might learn Irish together, and use this thread to share links to places online with clear explanations of how to learn Irish, and also post useful vocabulary; we might even coin a few ourselves (if vegetarian is feoilséantóir, or 'meat-shunner', why not?).

    How about it?

Also, menu is biachlár. Don't know how I'd forgotten that.

    *Joking, joking

That sentence is a great example of how, if Irish grammar isn't explained properly early, a kid can get lost.

Am I allowed to go to the toilet.

Memrise is a decent app for helping to learn languages. Not sure how it is with Irish though. Maybe I'll give it a bash.

A friend of mine failed his pass level Irish in the Leaving. In the middle of his essay, he put these immortal lines
"Luigh an fear agus an cailin. Isteach amach isteach amach isteach amach"

Seems there's only basic level there. Too basic for most of us, I think.
It's still a great app for learning other alphabets.
