Neighbours car had a quear knocking out of the front of it, he thought it was a ball joint, I took a quick look, 2 of the 4 nuts were 2 or 3 turns off falling off, the other 2 nuts were loose. The knocking was the wheel going over and back! Don't know how they got loose, the rest were fine. Got a new tyre on 2 months ago, maybe it wasn't tightened properly since then. Disaster averted anyway.

I have RDS 5000, OEM Ford radio in my Escort now, but should I swap it for RDS 6000? Pretty much the same unit except it has CD instead of cassette/tape. I can get one from an early MK1 Focus pretty cheap.

Back home oh it's a struggle to get use to the sh!t weather again. It feels so cold too :pac: I have had it planned for weeks that I'd clean my car tomorrow and unless the weather is really bad which it probably will be I'm going to try and do it. It's in for a service Monday morning I'm not quite sure what the fcuk I was thinking all those weeks ago when I booked it in at 9am especially when it's half an hours drive to the garage.

The above car alarms talk really makes me want to set of my alarm just to see if it was worth the extra money the previous owner paid for it when I looked it up there is definitely an extra sounder on top of the factory one so there should be a could noise out of it. I suppose if you say in the car and locked it the thermal sensors should set it off. I can't really think of any other ways of testing it out.

If you use one of them tape to aux in connections then maybe don't change it as you obviously can't get ones for CDs and the fm tuners are hit and miss where as I've heard the tape converters are not too bad. But if you don't use an aux in and want to listen to CDs swap it otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Stick with the tape deck if you want aux in.

You can mod the RDS6000's to keep cd and have aux in. Just 3 wires and a bit of soldering

I was about to say something similar, did this in a Nissan a few years ago. No signal loss that way either through one of those tape things which is good.

That's awesome. Might need to do that.

    Thanks for that. :)

For the sake of one of the sockets it'd be worth a go on the tape deck even

Didn't mangle them, stole them. I'm lucky to even have alloys on it. I don't know why the alarm didn't go off sooner but they( thieves) were gone by the time I got outside.

Jaysus. I'd be parking right up against a wall and boxing the car in with another car right against the other side.
If it's a v40, they're not exactly wheels that are easily sold on so they might be specifically after them and come back.

So one of the sisters is looking at getting a new or nearly new mazda 6. As far as I can remember the older diesel mazda 6 had engine issues. Is the newer one grand? Idk why she wants that car. As she has one child and both her and her husband live about a mile from work. Given that, what would you lads buy?

And her husband is looking to sell his 07 hiace with very low mileage to make up some of the money. Any ideas as to a good price to list it at?

    Bit stuck here.

The aul fellas Saab's coil pack seems to be gone. Before pissing 200 odd euro down the drain, anyone know where to pick up a diagnostic reader to check it? My el cheapo bluetooth one seems to be dead.

Where are you based? I've got one of those ELM bluetooth readers that you could borrow. A few other guys have them here too. I gave a spare one away a few years ago.

Cool, I know some cars the fog comes on as a turning light so just ruling that out

You were right. Went out and gave the wheel a wiggle and the lights came on depending on how the wheel was turned. Great shout.

Happy days, glad you didn't rip the car apart looking for a dodgy connection! I noticed a Skoda yesterday coming off a round about with one fog on. It wasn't foggy and thought, if you're gonna drive with your "spot lights" on at least have both of them working. It then went out and I coped it was this feature.

I'm not sure if anyone else here has noticed but the F10 (particularly the 520D/518D) has become the modern day Carina E. There are just so many of them on the road and they really do just blent into the traffic. They honestly must be one of the least noticeable cars on the road, like the Carina E was, it just fills a space but isn't actually noticed. There was a time when a 5 series was a little bit special but the cars are so mundane now. A shame really.

I saw you the other day, I dare say you've put on a few pound. How was that plum pudding?

It is just they are so common, they are no more or less mundane than they were I would guess. Victim of their own success in that way.

A F10 M sport is still a very good looking car IMO, more so than others in it's class. But you are right, they are everywhere.

Personally I think the Mazda 6 and new Passat (in the right spec) are better looking. I suppose they are probably technically a class below the 5 series and in more competition with the 3 series.

The current E class is a much sharper looking car and still holds some prestige.

Isn't that just the opposite of the image that the owners were likely seeking when they bought the car. Bit of a fail. Instead of having the ultimate driving machine, they become Joe Soap or Mondeo Man.
