Irish rail just tweeted that due to water levels, this section of the Sligo line is closed again and bus transfers are in place.

Here's hoping this doesn't drag on as long as the last time and there isn't many railcars trapped on the Sligo side of the line .

    It's worse than that!
Bus transfers in operation between Limerick/Ennis/Galway, Longford/Carrick-on-Shannon, Belfast/Newry and Rosslare/Gorey due to flooding.

I know but I'm thinking of in the context if traped railcars and capacity reduction etc.

The two in particular that could pose problems is Sligo and rosslare lines. We'll find out Monday if there are many trapped railcars.

Just 1 units I believe but possible to get to Dublin if really needed and closure is a lot longer.

    That's good to hear

The biggest worry is what and how many units are trapped on the Sligo line.

The last thing we need is a repeat of the problems we had on the longford, maynooth, Sligo and Drogheda lines before Christmas

Actually on a second look should be 2 sets in Rosslare, should be a minimum of 4 in Sligo if not a full house of 5 on a normal day, one might expect with the week that's in it there may be less sets 2 or 3 maybe or IE may of gotten a couple out earlier in the week.

If they do transfer from Rosslare to Waterford to Connolly it's going to take 7-8 hours so either it's going to happen tomorrow or they are hoping the line is open on Monday or else there will be some uncomfortable services on Monday.

i can't imagine it would take 7/8 hours to transfer them. of course if one of the units got caught originally in flooding that would be a different story

It probably would take 7/8 hours considering it would be a 25mph run the entire way from Rosslare to Waterford alone.

Believe the weed spray takes around 4 hours, plus another 2 to Dublin and you are unlikely to get a clear run to Connolly from Waterford so easily an extra hour and a bit.

yeah true i suppose. the units would probably have to travel at reduced speed all the way due to not having a depot visit for longer then usual?

Visit or not wouldn't make a difference as they have been shut down since Tuesday but they would destroy the line if any faster and then all the crossings.

sorry wrote that last post in a bit of a rush. what i was doing was referring to the waterford dublin section only as i know rosslare waterford would take time to do due to the 15 mph speed limit. anyway, thanks to you both for the info.

IE say they hope to have Rosslare open on Monday, would of been nice to see a transfer over S Wexford line if the closure was going to last a lot longer.

I think they closed the line after getting the sets they need back down.

i was on the understanding a set got to enniscorthy and then had to turn back. there was another unit all ready stabled i believe. but i don't know, you could be right. i'm only going on what i heard.

Reference to Sligo I think from Hilly Bill.

The 07.20 got to Wexford that morning while the usual 05.35 service was not operating and the unit in Gory operated towards Dublin at 06.45 like happens on Saturdays.

ESB has increased the flow rate from Poulaphouca with no corresponding increase at Leixlip, meaning the area in between is now at flood risk. I wonder could we see flooding along the Kildare route now.

Irish rail tweeted that there will be reduced capacity as sets are trapped in Sligo.

Rosslare line is now cleared for traffic ready for tomorrow morning.

Talking to a friend that was travelling on the Sligo line a few days, i think around Longford the train went flying through deep flood water and the train and carriages shook. Glad to see its closed.
