    23 down "uniformly grey" and the 18+66 across one...

    Is 57 across leek? If it is then the third letter won't fit with with 58 down, angels.

    57 across Leak?? I don't really know why. I think 18 across is xmas.

    Rebs seems to be the answer.

    "Rebs" as in "Rebels" as in "Confederates" in the American Civil war wore grey uniforms.

    Their opponents the Yanks or Unionists wore blue.
