Xpose having 102,000 viewers on Monday Night.....
TV3 could have easily dropped either TSOC or Xpose in favour of a chat show, considering Ray D'Arcy's Saturday night show doesn't start until late September and has finished in Mid-November.

That's a good figure for Xpose. I don't think they could have 'easily dropped' it. It's probably the most watched show at 6pm outside of the News on RTE1.

The Seven O'Clock Show can be dropped, or even rested for a month or so. What could they replace it with though is a problem. Their attempts in January and February failed with CDWM, The Lie, Nothing To Declare, DIY SOS. Should they wait and give TSOCS another few months to find its feet.

The chat show market is overcrowded at the moment. Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton, Alan Carr, Ray D'Arcy, Ryan Tubridy are on over 2 days. I don't think they should venture into that area unless there is someone who is vastly different to those.

TSOCS has yet to find its feet. There is no real reason for TSOCS just to merge to form 1 or 2 weekend chat with Lucy presenting one and Martin presenting the other, even just an hour long on Sat and Sun. An Irish chat show that doesn't always need one of those moments where someone died, where live was difficult, followed by a stand up and some reality TV star!

All of their replacement shows bar The Lie were repeats of imports.

There was great opportunity for them to drop Xpose or TSOC during the summer months for a late night chat show while repeating Red Rock in those time slots rather than the 10pm slot it got.

RTE ONE is just holding on to its audience. Strange that The Ray D'Arcy Show has finished for the year and won't return until Jan or Feb. People of The Year had 285,000 viewers. Again TLLS topped the chart with 507,000 viewers. With Mario Rosenstock getting 286,000 viewers which isn't bad considering.

The Ray Darcy show is on this sat night coming at 10pm

Why break for two weeks to come back for 2? Not that its increasing its audience.

RE: TV3 = Also why would you choose a Morning show over a Prime Time Chat Show?

Your not going to believe this but he is only back for one week then its the sports awards the following week moved to a Saturday night. Why they ever recruited Darcy is beyond me , the Saturday night show was much better and that's not saying much . The people of the year awards used to be in September as well

As I said earlier, there are already a steady stream of chat shows over the week that is already catered for by Tubridy, Carr, Norton, D'Arcy and Ross. Ireland AM and it's weekend shows are successful for TV3 because there's no other similar shows at that time on RTE, and only UK alternatives like Sunday Brunch and GMB etc.

I'm surprised Midday has lasted this long. They'll need to stop the constant Tipping Point repeats, and get something to replace Jeremy Kyle.

I still think they'd get more for a Prime Time Chat Show. I think an Irish Channel really needs to consider a Chat Show that is an entertainment show and avoids the "My next guest was killed following a field fire, since that time he has become a household name through the farmer who's field went on fire, but is there life after a field mouse fire, please welcome Farmer Jack and Minister for Agriculture."

I thought Mario Rosenstock would do better, I "Genuinely" love the show, a great laugh.

I think RTE investigates this week will do well, got a lot of advertising in media and news about the corruption in politics. But possibly only adults would have been interested.
    Well done RTE Investigates.

I was not too surprised to read in some publications that UTV Ireland had become the most watch TV channel after RTE ONE (to paraphrase TV3). Particularly when UTV only mention it being the 2nd channel during Peak viewing. But then I realize many jornos that write up reports clearly failed their comprehension lessons at school.

UTV should have known well that they had to air I'm A Celeb ...NOW! as ITV2.

TV3 was up from most of the year but it wasn't their worst month, but they held on to little from the RWC2015.

RTE ONE was helped with the Toy Show, while RTE2 saw a complete collapse to below 6%.

3e, TG4 and Setanta both saw slight rises, while UTV proper held on to their RWC2015 audience.

Over all not surprisingly Irish TV feel back to 47%

Is there any consensus yet on D'Arcys show over the few months its been running? Latest figuers say 384k viewers but surely RTE was expecting 450k-500k for this slot? Is it too early to judge or has his numbers hit a peak and will keep around the current level?

RTÉ where expecting the same audience from TSNS as it and Craig Doyle had retained tubrity tonight's audience. Ray Darcy's problem is that he is hosting just a new version of TLLS on Saturday night (like his predessors) only he has had more breaks and initially the RWC to contend with.
    Problem with Irish chat shows
    1. Misery slot
    2. Politics
    3. Desperate need to be controversial
The only good think about TRDAS is the set.

This time last year the Sat Night Show was pulling in between 360,000 and 420,000 viewers. Darcy's show dips to 340,000 or so, but it's the same ballpark. I'd say they're expecting it to build, but it's not a disaster.

I agree with you. It's a bad programme. But in ratings terms it's doing pretty well. I've been surprised on this thread a few times by people not getting that distinction.

    Sept 08 TT had 483,000
    Nov 08 TT had 459,000
Sept 09 TT axed no full time replacement
    Sept 10 TSNS had 453,000
    Oct 10 TSNS had 401,000
Nov 10 TSNS didn't feature into 20 less than 370,000 viewers
    Dec 10 TSNS 526,000
    Sept 11 TSNS 423,000
    Nov 11 TSNS 404,000
    Sept 12 TSNS 395,000
    Nov 12 TSNS 379,000
    Sept 13 TSNS 359,000
    Nov 13 TSNS 410,000
    Sept 14 TSNS 390,000
    Nov 14 TSNS 377,000
    Sept 15 TRDAS 395,000
    Nov 14 TRDAS 384,000

A slight increase from last years TSNS, but IMO it badly needs to improve, though I said that about TSNS.

As I point out to SWMBO, you can tell who is thought to be watching the programme by looking at the products and services being advertised. For example, if it is bingo and incontinence remedies, you are watching afternoon TV - on the other hand, you would be encouraged if it was Mercedes and Audi cars as they would be aimed much further up market.

What do the advertisers try to push during the Ray Darcy Show? Lotto?

RTE ONE haven't got out of the summer time audiences. Though They continue to take up much of the top twenty programmes. With only TV3 and UTV in the top twenty this week.

Interesting RTE2's UEFA coverage fell back with just 166,000 viewers will TV3's coverage had 294,000, possibly the biggest audience of the year for Champions League, who was playing Tuesday night. It topped both channels top twenty.

RTE2's 2nd show as about pick balls out of a hat with Euros2016 coverage getting 153,000 viewers. After that its down hill again for RTE2 with under 85,000 viewers watching the rest of their top twenty shows. Friends and The Simpons getting 47,000 viewers.

TV3's decision to air GIBO after XFactor worked out even if the talent show has lost much of its audience. It's final results show had 281,000 viewers and with Saturday night having 198,000 viewers. GIBO increased for the final with 174,000 viewers. The People's debate had 128,000 viewers. Xpose and Judge Judy are raking in the viewers at number 10 and 9 with 110,000 and 97,000 viewers. 76,000 viewers for Thursday's 7 O'clock Show. Red Rock on the other hand failing to grow with 95,000 and 81,000 viewers.

On UTV Ireland same old same old, with Coro St and Emmerdale taking up the top 11 spots from 169,000 to 315,000 viewers. A special I'm A Celeb on Wednesday night had 146,000 viewers. And one must not forget the Royal Variety Show with BGT winner (who?) getting 121,000 viewers. Peirs Morgan had 76,000 viewers just betting TV3's number twenty by 3,000.

I think that's much of the year completed at this stage. Have a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Man United were playing on 3, with Arsenal on Two, so pre-match expectation levels probably reflected in the figures.

Very poor showing for the RTE SPOTY - at just 251k, it barely scraped into the top 20. At Your Service Revisited (305k) and Disney's Christmas Carol (271k) were notable successes, as was Baz The Lost Muslim (117k) on Two. That said, their PR could do with considerable improvement, with neither Homeland or Big Bang Theory delivering the ratings common elsewhere. Family Fortunes, Celebrity Chase and TGIBO were highlights for TV3 at 120-150k, but UTV takes thus week's prize for Kevin Dundon's Christmas Cooking at 200,000 viewers.

Looks like that's a 2 minute section that was on before Emmerdale. Don't know why they class this and 5 minutes of The Pulse as a programme.

    Not much change really.

RTE ONE remains steady, but still down at Summer levels. Mrs. Brown's Boys should lift them at Christmas.

RTE2 has Top Gear getting 73,000 viewers and has 2 episodes in the top 20, why? While Baz exploration of Muslims in Ireland had just 117,000 viewers topping their chart.

Why are they broadcasting Don't Tell The Bride, Nurses, John Bishop and Top Gear. Their number 20 getting just 44,000 viewers.

TV3 are back down this week. No X-Factor and it shows. Family Fortune's Takes top place with 147,000 viewers, GIBO Xmas special had 110,000 viewers, Catchphrase brought them 99,000 viwers.

Wednesday Night Episode of Red Rock had 85,000 viewers and less than 72,000 viewers on Thursday Night.

Xpose had 4 episode in the top 20 with an average of 75,000 viewers, but The Seven O'clock fails to capitalize on these viewers. I assume this is due to no Home and Away on RTE2.

UTV Ireland continue down the same road and like TV3 and RTE2 fail to capitalize on the big event show (I;m A Celeb). With ITV's text santa getting 93,000 viewers and the other big ITV programme The Sound of Music LIVE failing to get into the top twenty. Like Xpose, The Chase is holding its audiences.

It's a pity that short filler programmes are holding up UTV's top twenty.

    Al Porter| Christmas Eve| 96,000
    U2: Innocence + Experience Live| Christmas Day| 90,000

RTÉ ONE and RTÉ2 were the 2 most watch channel in Ireland on Christmas Eve, Day and Stephen's Day.

Where does that leave TV3 and UTV Ireland?

Glenroe Doc gets nearly 1/2 million while Tommy Tiernan on after it does not even get on the table. Al Porter at under 100k is also very poor.

News outlets didn't give full details so Tommy Tiernan could have done well.

    Al Porter is very poor.

Am I right in thinking Mrs Brown's Boys gets a bigger audience share in the UK? (~35%, including time shift).

Al Porter was in the same time slot as Gravity, highest rated film on the schedule, which was proceeded by MBB, highest rated programme, so I think you're being unfair.

Ironically, Hozier Special probably benefited from being up against top-rated MBB, because few other programmes polarise to such an extent as the latter. It would have got the anything-but viewer.

All in all, a fairly dismal showing to match a fairly dismal schedule.

"ITV syndrome" presumably, that they don't even attempt to compete over the holidays!
