You don't mow the lawn, you cut the grass.

I've done both.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
Nothing happens "only in Ireland".
It's just because you haven't yet seen other countries where these things happen too.

Even thinking some happens "only in my country" isn't a very Irish thing.
Totally untrue,, I have a part finished book on this. Where else for example will grown "men" come to blows over a few inches of land, or get into court cases that last decades over a simple right of way...or have councillors who advocate drinking and driviing be made law ( also pub owners).. will stop there

In fairness, a bit of carpet in the bathroom is handy for..... ehh.... soaking up any 'spillages'.:o

"You gotta watch out for traffic, son. You know? Santy don't visit the funeral homes little buddy". Home Alone. Not in Ireland.

Talk about a cryptic message :)

No idea what you are on about.

There's a fair few wars going on in the world today over 'a few inches of land.'
When I served in Cyprus with the UN in the 1960s two families killed each other off (Total 15 dead) over a six foot right of way to the local Lime Kiln.
I could go on, but a bit more research is needed before you publish that book methinks.

Holding your fork in your left hand
Mowing the lawn on Sunday
Using a roundabout without indicating
Putting sugar and milk in tea
Tiles on bathroom floors

Any more?
You just described England.

Thats about it.

Not one thing in the OP is close to being uniquely Irish.

People don't grow up with Irish accents nowadays as they end up with the false god awful contrived accents..

Closing absolutely everything on Christmas day (emergency services and a few hotels etc excepted) and pubs on good Friday. Is this just an Irish thing?

They were all Turkish Cypriots from the self style Republic of Ambelikou in the western part of Cyprus which was the Irish A/O at that time.

The first thing that crosses your mind when you see a "Caution Icy Roads" sign is I wonder how long that's been left there (seeing the sign in June).

Not at all. I'm here in The Netherlands and they've all but rolled up the streets.

Tiles on the bathroom floor is an Irish thing? I thought that was universal.

If anything, Ireland seems to be one of the few places where freaks people put carpet on the floor in bathrooms.

Nope, my friend in the UK has this.

It's a fairly old house, and it doesn't look like the landlord will get the bathroom carpet up anytime soon, but I can confirm that there's at least one house in the UK with carpet in their bathroom :D
