Sad. The forced jolliness gets more grating with every year.

Let's talk in a day or two.

It will be nothing then, apart from leftovers to eat, and what the heck will we do today kind of thing.

Lot of trouble for Christmas Day sometimes.. But then it's each to their own!

Loved it as a kid. Hated it ever since I became an adult, mostly thanks to the manipulative bullying carry of certain family and relatives. I remember spending one stephens day in a busaras station down the sticks heading back to dublin to spend the rest of christmas alone rather than deal with more of their bull**** and thinking "I will never go through this again"

Since then I refuse to stress myself out over for Christmas. I buy a few presents and leave it at that, I have no problem spending it alone if I want to.
Also its my first Christmas off the gargle for as long as I can remember, hopefully this time it'll be forever.

I was stone cold sober last christmas and I'll be like that again this christmas, it's a good feeling.

I usually like it, but can't get into it this year at all. A relative died very suddenly a couple of weeks ago and still feeling quite down/not very festive and also suffering from insomnia. Will try my best to put on a happy face tomorrow for everyone else.

The best xmas I ever had was in an asian country. Around 6pm a local bar put on some xmas music, we got drunk and it was over by midnight. Flippin brilliant. Even last year in south america it was fun and relaxed.

First xmas in ireland in years and i'm loathing it. Everyone is being totally **** to eachother, the whole ****ing bull**** is fuking unbearable.

Can't do another year, I'll actually assault some cuant.

Hate xmas with a passion. Have done since I was 12-13.. When the Tesco till said Ho Ho Ho I told it to feck off (out loud as well.. got some looks!)

However this evening.. On bottle of vino No 2 and other than a few texts calls tomorrow, piece and quiet all day. Bliss..

I am surprised more people without close family don't do the xmas alone thing.. Its great! Done it for a few years now.

Get out of bed when you want, no fights, no feeling awkward about "having" to round to someones house from the day..

I'm so jealous. I've agreed to host my mother in law tomorrow but otherwis eit would have been a chillout day with a good book, a good walk, fine wine and a few movies. instead I'll probably be retiring to bed early to do a crossword.

My wife will owe be big time for this.

Christmas is over now, so that makes me very happy.

My mum was ill yesterday and couldn't come to ours as planned. Instead, we stayed with her at the nursing home. Sad day because, well....read between the lines.

One of the staff brought in her two beagle puppies, and that lifted things quite a lot!

Sorry for lowering the mood and being self indulgent.

God, Spanish Eyes, sorry to hear this and you are not bringing the tone down, I have been pleasantly surprised at how honest boardsies have been this year about how much they didn't want to do Xmas or were dreading it. I have a very ill family member so my mind and heart are on this person, this year and nothing else. I was able to distract myself with good food, some nice drinks, good films and being on Boards, and knowing its only a day or two to get through.

What a lovely message, thank you so much.

I hope your relative will be OK. It can be a tough time for many, but we do our best to muddle through!

I wasn't looking forward to Christmas for a few reasons but it's been surprisingly fun. Now I'm quite drunk so that may be influencing me :pac:

For those you weren't looking forward to it I hope you got through it ok.

I find it difficult not to reflect on the negative and think about those things, people and places I'd rather have with me.

I'm lying here listening to Leonard Cohen's 'Songs and Love & Hate', hardly fills one full of Christmas cheer.

Yeh that resonates with me. It's great having the family home and i'm blessed to have not lost anyone close yet, but the small bit of free time I get, periodic hangovers and idle hands has me dwell on the negative things as you say.

Because Christmas is an annual milestone, it makes me think on lack of change, progress, getting old etc. A sad song gets the ball rolling!
