Does Christmas make you happy or sad?

It used to make me sad because the free time made me concentrate on how bad my life was but life isn't as bad now so I'm indifferent - it doesn't make me happy though. I'm looking forward to a time when I'm excited about Christmas. I'd like to have that feeling again.

Sad. Always sad. Well not always sad, once I got past a certain age anyway. And the sadness gets more so with each passing year.

Used to always make me happy but this year I have to say I'm totally indifferent to it. Glad to get time off work but the Christmas 'spark' just isn't there! Maybe I'll get it once I'm home but I'm not even getting excited about St Stephen's Day and that's not like me at all!

Christmas is a ****ing take on. It's this big myth tgats supposed to make everyone happy yet the run up to it, the day and the payments after would depress Prozac!

So so so so happy. When we found out we couldn't have children the first thing I thought was that Christmas was going to be rubbish without them but it's not. I love it so much.

I hope that those who don't enjoy it find something they can be happy with tomorrow. I know it's not an easy day for everyone.

Both. It's the time I miss people who have died. Parents, brothers and friends. There's a certain melancholy when I hear particular Christmas hymns but a special deep spirituality that lifts me too.

It also such a happy time. Seeing the family all having a good time together. The excitement of the grandchildren.

I used to dismiss Christmas as a non-entity, a commercial nonsense that comes all-to-often, but when I analyse myself I think that view is formed based on my current 'meh' life. When I was happy, I loved Christmas. So I say I don't like it because of the emotions it brings out in me, not because I don't like it.

Same. I miss those who are gone.

Love the excitement and innocence of nieces and nephews at what Santa brought. I also enjoy catching up with those I don't see very much, during the year.

I love the routine of the day itself, go to the neighbours, drink brandy, come home and make a balls of the dinner, drink more brandy, take the dog for a walk, fall in the ditch, come home, drink more brandy, conk out and look forward to doing the same again next year.

Overall, happy. I get to spend time with my family, the bf and his family. I get to give gifts to people and I usually receive some lovely gifts too. sister comes home from England, few days off work, can't complain.

I miss people who have passed away, though. it's sad since my grandad passed a couple of years ago, and I got a bit teary over two friends who died young (23 and 25, a couple of years ago), but I'll have a drink to them and enjoy myself

I love Christmas, it's new years eve I find sad. I always get a bit maudlin and contemplative before the new year.

Tired, generally. All them last minute jobs to complete around the house, masses of cleaning up to be able to host the outlaws(was like a building site at 7am, looks alright now.. and teenagers wanting lifts at strange and inconvenient times to strange and inconvenient places. That and parties to go to when really you ought to be trying to get your own party-sh1t in order... Nice sittng down to the big feed, but a lot of work to get to that point. If you aren't generally a "shopping" type person(I'm not) that's another layer of strangeness and fuppery to include as well..possibly leaving all the shopping for gifts to Christmass eve hasn't proven to be the best strategy..

I used to be mad about Christmas. My belly would be in knots of anticipation the night before. Santy was visiting! A magical man in my house!

I woke at 5 am and ran into the sitting room. Then straight into mammy and daddy to show them my presents. Then mammy would get up. My uncle came for dinner and we wore paper crowns. More excitement having him there. We were very close when I was growing up. After eating enough to do us for a year we went into the sitting room to play old fashioned games like snakes and ladders.

It was all terribly simple. As I got older there was still a bit of that magic. I'd wake on Christmas morning to my mam blasting Christmas songs around the place. Then it all changed. Now I greet it with indifference and longing. The longing is for how I would like it to be. Mammy well, at home with us, me also being a mam with little people full of the same excitement I used to have.

I'll give myself a good old shake now and head off for my walk

Bit sad so I don't think about it much.. Haven't been home for it in five years. I usually have to work although this year, I have the day off. People here think it's only a kids thing and invite foreigners to silly children's Christmas Day parties.. No thanks. I'll spent it with my girlfriend and friends.

I like new years, simply because of all the reflection on the year, though the holidays can drag a bit at that stage.

The break at Christmas is grand, the dark and gloominess of the time of year kinda suits my personality.

It's the Summer I need to worry about.

One thing I've noticed this year though - some Christmas songs are really get on my nerves. The ones radio stations always play.

I don't know why only now after all these years but...

Otherwise it's good vibes all around! Can't wait to see the faces of those I've bought presents for when they open them!

Completely indifferent to it this year, no idea why.
Was feeling a bit sad/guilty about that but now I'm just grateful that I'm not feeling the pressure/stress of it all because of my indifference.
Looking forward to the little one opening her gifts but that's about it.

Christmas, for me, is like Friday afternoon, I love it ......... New Year's Eve is like late Sunday night, I know what's facing me in the morning and I dread it.

At moment its making me sad. Had 300 euro put aside for presents for family, had it in house, counted it during week to make sure it tallied. I havent a clue where I put it or where its gone now. I've searched high and low and fear its either lost out of my pocket or thrown into waste bin by accident....Sick...
