    Not exactly based on the information you supplied... she could apply for citizenship, with a waiting period of two further years... during which she would need to pass the language and citizenship exams. The final step would be to get approval from her community and honestly it is not unusual for them to reject people from Eastern European countries.

    How so? Sounds a bit racist to me. Know quite a few Balkanites myself, lovely people, very hardworking and hospitable, OP's girlfriend notwithstanding.

    A Swiss citizen is first and foremost a citizen of a community (village or town) and then automatically a Swiss citizen. This means that should the citizen fall into financial difficulties etc.. that community is responsible for their well being, not the state (at least in theory).

    Accordingly each community has it's own means of determining who is accepted and who is not. Most communities use some kind of standard legal process to do this, but some allow the villagers to vote on it. In the first case there is almost always a genuine concern when someone gets knocked back, but in the latter case it can well be that they just don't like your face.

    There is no doubt getting Swiss citizenship is very difficult. That is what I was trying to point out to the OP, it is not just a case of 10 years residency.

    Op will look back on this thread with regret.

    OP the girl is an adult and responsible for her own life. You are not just getting deeply involved with a girl you don't really know as well as you think you do, you are also getting involved sticking your nose into cultural and family issues that you have no place getting involved in.

    Seriously. Walk. The. Fcuk. Away.

    You're not a knight in shining armour rescuing a damsel in distress and you can't rescue other people from themselves.

    Also the fact that you're being played is so obvious it hurts.
