Nightmare in Dundrum, van wouldn't start. Got a tow start off a guy, ticking over now but battery light on and no power steering. Bit of a bang now too, like rubber burning. No smoke though.

Sounds like the auxiliary (fan) belt is after snapping as that would drive the alternator and power steering pump. The engine won't last long with no alternator as when the battery dies it will just stop. You need to make sure that if the belt has snapped it is not all caught up.

    And we're stopped.

That definitely sounds like a fan belt any mechanic would be able to replace it not a big job. If you pop the bonnet and look down into the engine bay see if you can see the belt on the side of the engine or it could be gone or snapped in bits around the engine.

My OSRAM Nightbreaker Unlimited went today on the driver's side...

Pretty sh*te return from this bulb. I paid €20 for the pair at the start of October. Noticed this morning it was burned out.

I'm not sure if the quality of the H7 bulb is different to the quality of the H4 bulb from OSRAM because my Yaris has H4 Nightbreaker bulbs and they've lasted over a year

Replaced both bulbs now with H7 OSRAM Cool Intense Blue. The bulb glass is completely blue but in reality both bulbs look the exact same colour intensity. Maybe it will look different when it's dark though.

Anyone have a spare alternator for a transit connect?

One of my Halfords might-breakers blew yesterday. Now I know I got them half price with the trade card, but imagine how impressed id have been with the 4 month lifetime of this €57 RRP bulb pack.
Then you can't buy the bulbs individually.
Just bought bluish +50% bulb for €10 instead, looks the same tbh. No noticeable drop in light output.

One of my unlimiteds gone a few days ago (another one's ok), lasted 8 months of everyday driving. And I always drive with lights on.

I normally get a year out of mine or about ~30k km. I put 2 on the Megane when I got it in May and there is about ~16k Km on them and both are fine. I have had them switched on the vast majority of the time. The dips have been switched on constantly (the lights go off themselves when the car is switched off don't need to turn off the switch) for about the last 3 months as the weather is so bad and I do most of my driving late night early morning. I've only ever used the H7 version 4 months seems very quick for one to go.

I heard bad things about the Nighbreakers so got Philips X-treme Vision instead. Quite happy with them. I also put in Philips silvervision indicator bulbs on the front. Headlights look much better without the egg yolk-look! :pac:

    I got mine from powerbulbs.com.

Yeah I will give the X-treme Visions a go next. I'm using the OSRAM Cool Blue Intense bulbs now. Hopefully they last longer :o

I had 2 xmas partys this year! Our own unofficial one last Friday week, and the official dinner paid for and all, yesterday. I have enough too much fine dining lately, I soon won't be able to see my belt!
