Google maps is great but my problem is you cannot have it running in GPS heads up map mode without setting a destination which is very handy when you're trying to look for addresses when you have an idea of the area and don't want to stop to type it. This is one of the reasons I moved to Waze

Waze is due to get a modernisation on Android, next few weeks apparently.

Coming from Windows Phone I immediately went for Here maps for the offline navigation, and although I do like Google maps for navigation it is missing the speed limits for roads which is a big plus with Here. I do a huge mileage and my main concern is staying ahead of the speed vans by being constantly aware of the limits.. Anyway I don't think I'll need to spend the big bucks on Navigon or similar with such good free alternatives to hand.

I was using Waze and Google Maps in Town(Dublin City).

Both kept telling me to turn right with a no right turn.

Waze would rather I done a 5 minute u turn around the block to get back on route, than just go ahead and reroute as I went on

Wasn't Waze bought by Google some time back?
Maybe they are getting closer to merging them (Waze and Google Maps I mean) and could this be why the same error occurs in both, if they are starting to share data?

Taxi once told me they do that in case of emergencies, dunno if that's the real reason tho. It's a pain alright, I'd love to know a workround.

I was coming from drumcondra to blanch and said I'll try satnav for a change.

Twice was told turn right towards say glasnevin and their was permanent no right turn signs. Eventually went right onto Ncr towards the mater

Not a great recommendation for something that's meant to avoid live traffic, but can't even know a permanent no turn exists.

Done the same to me there too but that was two years ago at least!
Have noticed a few of these mistakes over the years.

Makes you wonder as street view is a year old(in most places).
Who updates the signage, footage from the camera or the roads crowd from each country.

For future your best bet from there to Blanch would be to take a right just after the Drumcondra train station (as you go under the bridge), go left onto Whitworth Road and then either head to the M50 at Finglas, or head through Cappagh.

Probably too late now though :o

Thanks, im a Shelbourne fan(thats a League Of Ireland team for those not in the know ;)) and season ticket holder(was over getting them)

SO, I usually park on Millmount Ave. Then go Walsh/Homefarm /Ballymun Roads and either turn into Finglas or straight on and then the M50.
But that's 14 or so times a year so decided to go a different way and see what the satnav would suggest

Worth mentioning, Disney's Castle of Illusion is €1.13 at the moment. Looks lovely, very strong Spyro the Dragon/Crash Bandicoot/Playstation 1, vibe off of it.

    thanks
    i'll not derail any more.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.truecaller truecaller was mentioned earlier. It came preinstalled on my phone and i think its great.

a caller id that works a lot of the time, in work its great knowing which customer is calling before you answer.

Another customer can't request it anyway and they won't unlock it until you've spent a certain amount on credit.

Just downloaded a game called Lifeline, which seems pretty good so far. It's an old-school text-based adventure game that centres around an astronaut called Taylor, who is the sole survivor (I think, only on day one, so please no spoilers!) of a spaceship crash and finds himself on a moon.

The whole concept is that you've encountered his signals and are communicating with him through various decision prompts, such as "bury the dead" or "go look for food".

What's interesting is that it all happens in real-time, so you'll receive notifications when he's ready to talk or has completed whatever he's told you to do. Right now I've sent him to sleep, so will probably hear back in a few hours. From the description of the game on Google Play, the story lasts several days.
