Depends on what type of bagel your sister got.

    Was it plain or multi-grain?

Was it wrapped up in the tenner?

I'd spend more than a tenner on a decent sandwich, bagel and tea.
    How much was the bill?

You've no comeback here really tbh. You assuming they could do their job was your mistake, not theirs. The only thing I can think of, is going back to the bagel bar and asking them about it. They might be up money when they do they cash up this evening and if you've left your contact details with them they might contact you.

In saying all that - I wouldn't be too surprised if you got coin change out of a €20 for what you ordered, could have come to well over €10 tbh.

You would be doing well to ask for a sandwich, tea and a bagel, hand over €20, and get at least €10 back.

I got two bagels, a tea and a can of coke in there before and it was at least €15...

    €8.60 it cost

We should do what American cashiers do. When you hand over cash they look at the note and before they start counting the change they say out loud "from a 10/20/50" as appropriate.

I'm sure it's monotonous but it cuts out ambiguity and if they get it wrong you can stop then before they put the note away.

I get out enough that I don't feel the need to boast about how much I spend on sandwiches and tea on the internet. So you go higher than a tenner do you? How much? 12 quid? Maybe 15 if it's payday? It's a fascinating topic.

No boast intended at all. I don't set a limit. We order what we want and pay. One regular spot is 8.50 for a chicken club and it's delicious. Simple really.

I wouldn't have read it as boasting. Someone thinks they bought two lunches out of a 20, and should have received in excess of a tenner change. Many people agree that this is unlikely as lunch for two often costs more than OP' s expectation. This isn't boasting. Your posts make you sound like a dope - you keep reaching for the "thinly veiled xyz" type tone and nobody finds it funny, so now you're getting a bit caustic. Chill out. Have a nice bagel and a cup of tea.

I used to tell people this so they would remember, never put the baby to bed before all the toys are out of the cot. Made it up myself, quite proud of it. :)

Or you could just do what normal people do and tell them how much you have given like... a 20 and another 20 that's 40....

Are people really fighting over bagels?

    Really?

Seems so. Bagel bar brawls are the in thing right now.

The real question is, did she change her gloves after you handed her the money?

Her bagel alone would have been around €5, that sum for what you got doesn't sound correct.
