2 years ago I was scratching around for something to get my mother and was going to get a gift set of anti wrinkle stuff from the chemist. My step father informed me that under the rules of parenthood my mother brought me into the world so she could take me out of it too.
I took the ever so subtle hint.

More shocking than insulting- Heard if a trainee vet nurse given a gangrenous amputated puppies leg for Christmas by the head vet at the practise. He had bandaged the leg too tight cutting off circulation and the owners hadn't realized until they came back two weeks later to get the bandage checked.

    Horror story all round.

I know a lady who was regifted the present she bought her sister the year before and it wasn't even in her size.

To say she was furious is putting it mildly.

Last year I got my insanely fundamentalist christian nut job neighbour a 2 foot version of the "buddy christ" from the film Dogma. Dunno if he liked it - since he never talks to us so much as hisses at us when we pass him. And I did not notice any significant difference in the tone of his hiss following the purchase.

I have always wondered at the practice of buying gift hampers with things like deodorant in it for people though. I wonder if the message that sends is ever intended.

I'd think that was hilarious! I'd never let them live it down. :)

I wouldn't mind a months gym membership. Might get me off my arse to do it properly.

I don't buy that story! First of all the pup would have been in agony which the owners would surely have acted on, and secondly a gangrenous limb would have stank to the high heavens, so even if they ignored the puppy in agony, the smell would have driven them to the vets.

I was asked if I would like boiler suit for Christmas as it would be useful for work, I never wear a boiler suit, the person was being dead serious too, and was surprised I wasn't very enthusiastic.
I have to work on Christmas day and no days off for Christmas, the last thing I need is to be reminded of is work, when relaxing and receiving a present.
Hopefully the disappointment in my voice was taken seriously and I avoid a boiler suit...same person said they would like a voucher to spend in a specific shop, doubt it will be to buy themselves a boiler suit.

The GF got a present from her mother, which was the very present she gave her for Xmas the year before hand.

It's obvious sometimes that no thought has gone into buying the gift. It was bought in a mad panic on xmas eve, I've received books on things like cycling in the past, something which I've no interest in.

I bought the wife a Dyson way back. It's still a topic of conversation 7 yrs later. Great bloody hoover, and touching that she remembers the gesture.
