Quick one for anyone in the know here. Can this tax credit be applied for retrospectively using the standard SPCC1 form on Revenue's website? I see that it only came into effect from January 2014, but replaced an older similar allowance, so we're trying to figure out if my Mam can claim it for 2011-2014 since I was a full time student at the time and lived at home.

Here is the information on the older credit be aware that there is a 4 year lookback rule of tax credits and you may want to hurry if you wish to claim for 2011.

Hello Ciaran, you may be able to advise me? My ex partner and I both used this credit up until it was taken from me this year. Are you aware of any circumstances whereby both parents receive this allowance in full following a request to revenue or a TD? As a standalone application I would fulfil the criteria required. Its unfortunate for the genuine single fathers who pay their way

Only one parent can receive it now. Its a change in how things are supposed to work.

As stated above only one parent can now claim the credit and its the primary carer in most cases and they will out the SPCC1 form.

If the primary carer decides to allow the secondary carer to claim it they must have the child at least 100 days a year and fill out the SPCC2 form

There is no mechanism in place for the credit to be split between the two
