I quite enjoyed Danny Baker's Christmas Hits on Sky Arts. A nice mix of the well known and the obscure in the hour and a half.
He should be doing it on the BBC, of course, but maybe they think they have plenty of compilation shows already.

It's on again a few times next week,

    Wed 11am Sky Arts
Christmas Eve 9am Pick (I think that's a freesat channel)
    Christmas Eve 9.15pm Sky Arts
    Christmas Day 4.20am & 4.10pm Sky Arts
    Christmas Day 7am & 10pm Pick

Already got that in my planner Pick is on Freesat as you say.

The last time I stopped by Knock to fill up 1 ltr holy water bottles it was poitin we were moving into the branded bottles before we re-entered civilization.
I feel Shane's urge to drink the holy water may be connected.

Just read the news that Lemmy has died :(

Terrible news. A proper legend. Aside from his well documented music career he popped up in quite a few BBC Music programmes, always making interesting contributions.

And Lemmy: The Movie was terrific. It'll probably get another airing soon.

Ah Lemmy .... "Live fast and keep goin'" ....."approach life sideways on tiptoes". When they rewrite the 10 commandments, he's the man for the gig.

Right, Lem....the expected happened unexpectedly. If there wasn't a free bar with hookers on tap in the Great Hereafter, there is now. Rock on.

    2006 Greenbank Under 10 B Team.

    Sponsored by Motorhead.

In Your face, 2006 Greenbank Under 10 A Team.
A Lincoln boys football team have won a sponsorship coup with a difference after striking a deal with heavy metal band Motorhead.
The Greenbank under-10s B team have the internationally renowned band's name on their shirts along with the band's motif - a skull named Snaggletooth.

The North Hykeham team also run out to the band's famous Ace of Spades track.

Team manager Gary Weight said the deal came about as he used to know lead singer Lemmy.

A must-see for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure yet. The 'friends' are the most amazing backing band of all time - Waits, Springsteen, Costello, Jackson Browne and more playing together to mark the occasion.

Hello, this Weekend see the premiere of last years well received Amy Winehouse film on Channel 4. And if it's 2016, then it's 1981 o'clock in TOTP time, there's the now annual "Story of TOTP ..." Doc to see how the show has evolved in 1981. Repeats from Genesis, Blondie and Elvis Presley and lots of clip compilations as ever ...

    Friday

    7.30pm & 3.30am Sounds of The Seventies
Documenting the chaotic imagery and rebellious energy of the punk rock era, including archive footage of prominent bands such as the Stranglers, the Damned, the Sex Pistols, the Jam, the Undertones, X-Ray Spex and Joy Division

9pm Great Guitar Riffs at the BBC
A compilation of archive clips and performances which include some of the most memorable guitar riffs of all time. Featuring Jimi Hendrix, the Kinks, Cream, AC/DC, the Smiths, Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Pixies and the Stone Roses

    9pm Film: Amy (2015, Channel 4) New!
Premiere. Documentary portrait of soul, jazz and R'n'B singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, whose untimely death in July 2011 followed a well-publicised history of drugs and alcohol abuse. Director Asif Kapadia traces Amy's rise and demise over the 13 years preceding her death, telling her story via her music and autobiographical song lyrics, video footage shot by friends and family, archive television clips, plus voiceover interviews with those who were personally and professionally close to her. Contributors include Pete Doherty, Mitch Winehouse, Tony Bennett, Mark Ronson and Tyler James

10pm & 2.30am Top of The Pops: The Story of 1981 New!
A nostalgic look back at the early part of the decade as the music show embraced the advent of `new pop', by changing its theme tune and titles and parting company with dance act Legs & Co. Acts featured include Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, the Human League, Kim Wilde, Midge Ure, Jerry Dammers (of the Specials), Beggar and Co, Leee John and Freeez. With Richard Skinner, Mike Read and Carrie Grant

11pm & 1.30am Top of The Pops: 1981 Big Hits New!
The year 1981 embraced disco and ska, new wave punk, the burgeoning New Romantic scene and the rise of synthpop, with some prog quirkiness and good old rock'n'roll thrown in. Performances from big hitter soloists Phil Collins, Shakin' Stevens and Kim Wilde are featured alongside the exuberant chaos of groups like Tenpole Tudor, Adam and the Ants and the Teardrop Explodes. Plus, Odyssey, Clare Grogan, the Specials and the Human League

    Midnight: Genesis: Together and Apart
Many schoolboys get together to form a band, but few of them go on to become multi-million-selling recording artists - but that's what happened to Genesis. Its core members - Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks - met at Charterhouse, a public school in Surrey, and began playing together with two other students in 1967. A few years and personnel changes later (including the addition of drummer Phil Collins) and the classic line-up was in place. But relationships within the band were fraught; Gabriel left for a solo career in 1975, and Rutherford, Collins, Banks and Steve Hackett carried on without him. Here, they're back together again to discuss their careers. Rare archive footage helps tell the story

    Saturday

10.45pm Blondie: One Way or Another
Profile of the pop group founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, one of the world's most successful bands to be fronted by a woman, which first rose to fame in the mid-1970s. The programme features interviews with former members and fellow performers including Iggy Pop, Shirley Manson, Tommy Ramone, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, who discuss Blondie's eclectic brand of music.

    11.55pm Blondie@Glastonbury
Coverage from the Other Stage of the Debbie Harry-fronted American rock band, who were sure to attract a sizeable crowd with their selection of classics such as Heart of Glass and Atomic, as well as tracks from their 2014 album Ghosts of Download. Introduced by Mark Radcliffe

12.50pm Top of The Pops: The Story of 1981
    as above

1.50am Top of The Pops: 1981 Big Hits
    as above

2.50am Synth Britannia at the BBC
A showcase of 1970s and 80s synth music taken from the BBC archives. Popular acts in the genre include Roxy Music, New Order, Ultravox, Soft Cell, OMD, Yazoo and Depeche Mode

    Sunday

    4.40pm Elvis on Tour (TG4)
Rock 'n' roll's biggest superstar performing at concerts throughout the USA. Featuring James Burton's guitar-playing skills and an early Presley performance on the Ed Sullivan show. Directed by Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel

    1am Genesis: Together and Apart
    as above

So there's a fair bit going on there, also there's lots of Jimi Hendrix on Sky Arts on Sunday Night. Movie theme of the week might be the lovely Chariots of Fire theme by Vangelis (RTE1, Saturday 2.30pm).

    Nice one.

Reading about how Lemmy kept lived life even when he knew his time was short makes me think this is only right and proper.
