I quite enjoyed Danny Baker's Christmas Hits on Sky Arts. A nice mix of the well known and the obscure in the hour and a half.
He should be doing it on the BBC, of course, but maybe they think they have plenty of compilation shows already.

Terrible news. A proper legend. Aside from his well documented music career he popped up in quite a few BBC Music programmes, always making interesting contributions.

And Lemmy: The Movie was terrific. It'll probably get another airing soon.

Hello, this Weekend see the premiere of last years well received Amy Winehouse film on Channel 4. And if it's 2016, then it's 1981 o'clock in TOTP time, there's the now annual "Story of TOTP ..." Doc to see how the show has evolved in 1981. Repeats from Genesis, Blondie and Elvis Presley and lots of clip compilations as ever ...

9pm Film: Amy (2015, Channel 4) New!
Premiere. Documentary portrait of soul, jazz and R'n'B singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, whose untimely death in July 2011 followed a well-publicised history of drugs and alcohol abuse. Director Asif Kapadia traces Amy's rise and demise over the 13 years preceding her death, telling her story via her music and autobiographical song lyrics, video footage shot by friends and family, archive television clips, plus voiceover interviews with those who were personally and professionally close to her. Contributors include Pete Doherty, Mitch Winehouse, Tony Bennett, Mark Ronson and Tyler James




10pm & 2.30am Top of The Pops: The Story of 1981 New!
A nostalgic look back at the early part of the decade as the music show embraced the advent of `new pop', by changing its theme tune and titles and parting company with dance act Legs & Co. Acts featured include Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, the Human League, Kim Wilde, Midge Ure, Jerry Dammers (of the Specials), Beggar and Co, Leee John and Freeez. The year 1981 embraced disco and ska, new wave punk, the burgeoning New Romantic scene and the rise of synthpop, with some prog quirkiness and good old rock'n'roll thrown in. Performances from big hitter soloists Phil Collins, Shakin' Stevens and Kim Wilde are featured alongside the exuberant chaos of groups like Tenpole Tudor, Adam and the Ants and the Teardrop Explodes. Plus, Odyssey, Clare Grogan, the Specials and the Human League


Midnight: Genesis: Together and Apart
Many schoolboys get together to form a band, but few of them go on to become multi-million-selling recording artists - but that's what happened to Genesis. Its core members - Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks - met at Charterhouse, a public school in Surrey, and began playing together with two other students in 1967. A few years and personnel changes later (including the addition of drummer Phil Collins) and the classic line-up was in place. But relationships within the band were fraught; Gabriel left for a solo career in 1975, and Rutherford, Collins, Banks and Steve Hackett carried on without him. Here, they're back together again to discuss their careers. Rare archive footage helps tell the story

Profile of the pop group founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, one of the world's most successful bands to be fronted by a woman, which first rose to fame in the mid-1970s. The programme features interviews with former members and fellow performers including Iggy Pop, Shirley Manson, Tommy Ramone, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, who discuss Blondie's eclectic brand of music.

Coverage from the Other Stage of the Debbie Harry-fronted American rock band, who were sure to attract a sizeable crowd with their selection of classics such as Heart of Glass and Atomic, as well as tracks from their 2014 album Ghosts of Download. Introduced by Mark Radcliffe
