Best of the cheap beer/lager...

...the world of alcohol seems polarised between those who like the standard brands like Heineken, Carlsberg and Bud, versus the craft beers.

So what about the cheap stuff that can't claim to be popular, and can't claim to be craft. The Karpackies, Tyskies and Lidl's Perlembacher.

So any of them particularly good? In recent months have to say I've had a lot of Perlenbacher. At €7 for 6x500ml bottles, it's pretty good value.

    Aldi's Cullens cider isn't bad.

The fake Budweiser from Aldi is nice. The fake Carlsberg is horrible though.

I reckon any 500 can or bottle in the €1 range is cheap. It means you can have a good night in front of the telly for a tenner.

Aldi's Brasserie is very strong and easy to drink. Makes you feel like a right alco so it does.

Probably...if Carlsberg did fake copies, they'd be the best fake copies...oh wait, you said Heineken??? No, nothing like that. Try Aldltesbacher. It's gorgeous...ish..

    Excelsior from Lidl.

75c a can. My favourite beer. Way nicer than Bud Heineken or Carlsberg

Aldi's O'Sheas Irish Red is my go to, same people who make O'Haras so it's damn good. I use a bottle of their stout whenever I'm making a stew :D

    Sounds lovely...ish..

    Might give it a go...sometime.

Meanwhile I'll snap up all the €26 slabs I can in tesco.

Germania from Dunnes at €1.15 a can. One of my favourite beers at any price. Nothing fancy, just crisp, refreshing German brewed lager. Almost certain to disappear once the new laws come in.

If you are really stuck do like a lot of the big brands do and super chill. Numb taste buds can't tell the difference between El cheapo larger and those that are very heavily advertised.

That said some of the expensive brands just aren't worth the premium.

    Tuborg.

A four pack for 5 quid in my local shop. Three pints of the stuff for a tenner in local pub.

    Tu...tu...tu...tuborg!

Aldi do bottles of stuff(can't think of the name, brown bottle, orange label)
It's a weisbier, quite tasty and around 4.6\4.8%.
    Only 1.69 a bottle(lrg bottle)

There is a german one I have seen around a few mates houses. Never thought to ask where they bought it but they tell me it is mad cheap. But I quite liked it when I have had it. Bitburger I think it is called. For a cheap beer it is much tastier than any of the "Standards" like bud and heiniken.

Finkbrau in Lidl. 50c per 250ml bottle so a euro for a 500ml serving

    It's not bad at all

    Ban billionaires

Perlenbacher in Lidl is a better pilsner than most of the "premium" brands. And if you manage to get the 8 packs when Lidl are doing their XXL promotions, under a euro per 500ml bottle.
Tuborg is every bit as good as Heineken or Carlsberg and better than Bud, Coors, Miller etc.
