Forgot to declare my goals for Smackdown Saturday :)

A Goal - hang on to FBOT01 for a sub 21. Very optimistic but will give it best shot
    B Goal - PB (< 21:05)
    C Goal - Non Jingle Bells PB (< 21:21)

Crossing the line ahead of any of my esteemed fellow timed-runners will be an added bonus ;)

Good luck all, see yis at the startline. DFYB.

Epic fail ! A big DNF today unfortunately. Just wasn't up for that pace from the outset. Not to worry, will try again soon :D. Well done to all who PB'd today and thanks to FBOT and yaboya for the pacing. Not their fault I couldn't keep up:o

When you've brought in such great results all year, one DNF is allowed I think.

    Next time.

    Saturday Smackdown – DNF

No complaints, no excuses. It just didn’t happen today, even though I was feeling reasonably confident of getting a non-Jingle Bells PB, whatever about the sub 21 which I knew was ambitious.

From the start I felt under pressure at target pace, chest/lungs were burning and I made the decision to stop after a lap, and I think that was the right thing to do.

I got to witness KennyG’s fantastic sub 21, Murph’s PB (so so close) and Aquinn’s big PB which was just short of a (virtual) podium spot! Well done Denis B for a gutsy run, I’ll give you a shout for the next attempt ;)?

After the obligatory coffee and scone, I joined Firedance for a lovely 5 miler around the trails in St.Anne’s. Sparkling company and sunshine the week before Christmas, what more could you want ?

Thanks, Hilly, that's just the thing to say to me right now, thank you :). I have had a good year so one DNF (two if you count the canine incident ) is not bad at all in the scheme of things. Hopefully see you over Xmas if you've time for a run ?

I hope so. Sure, didn't it take me 3 attempts for the 5 miler. I'm nothing if not stubborn :D. And I wonder where BG Jr. gets it from....

Should do ... Am home from night of 21st until the 1st. DG suggested another trip to Howth head, but not 100% sure I'm up for much hill right now because the achilles took a little bit of a setback after I recced the xc course for Fionnuala last Sunday . Ah, we'll see. Still nothing serious but had been improving and seemed to regress. Am going to add rolling-on-the-hockey-ball to the stair drops and that might sort it.
FD suggested Marlay as a flatter alternative.
    And fasterwards hopefully :D
Thanks a million. Looking forward to next year already :)

    With you there!

So it was mentioned then? What did you think of the tree carving?

BG I'm sorry today didn't work out after the flabs survived last weekend. Might be still down to recovering from dose. You are well able and so strong on the track on Tuesday it'll be no bother to you next time you tackle it. It's a cruel distance.

Ah here. Don't tell me you missed the absolutely massive tree with a load of birds fantastically carved in the top of it?

Ah G I think we still have some homework to do. Sign me up for the next attempt. We will do it. It's just a question of when and it's now my number 1 priority.

Hard luck and tough break today... it will be all the sweeter when you nail it.

If you're not feeling it G you're not feeling it so a good choice to stop I think, you've had a super year..... will make it all the more sweeter when you smash it next year. Feet up and enjoy the silly season now.

    Sunday - Hills

Early start this morning for the trip to Rush and BG Jr’s first parkrun. Great set-up, beautiful, safe park and encouraging volunteers. Close to 130 kids running/walking/jogging the 2Km today. Course is roughly a figure of 8 shape so everyone’s visible at all times. BG Jr was delighted with herself and wants to go back next week. Mind you she’s getting a bribe of some tat jewellery for each one she does and a t-shirt if she does 10. I’ll be coughing up for a parkrun hoodie if gets the bug and does 20. Great initiative, I wonder if it will gain the same momentum as regular parkrun. Must be a lot more red tape and safety considerations when kids are involved.

Got out in the afternoon for my run. Final recce of the Fat Turkey route on a sunny, dry but windy day. That 2nd Km is a killer but lots of fun as the 9th Km on the return leg. Looking forward to this now, it *should* help curb the over indulgences over the next week or so. One can only hope .
    • 7.2 miles incl. 10K Fat Turkey recce @ 8:19 (tarmac)

TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 35.6 (not including 1.27 junior parkrun;))
