Meaning of 'mo mheit'?

Like the title says, I'm wondering about the meaning of this phrase. It's one I've only ever seen used in and around Connemara. I know it's some sort of term of endearment but I'd love to know the exact meaning. If anyone could help me out that'd be great :)

I reckon it's "mo mhéit" with a fada on the e, and that it's likely colloquial adoption of "mate" from English.

That's all it is.

Another usage would be:

"Cén chaoi a bhfuil tú, a mhéit?".

A lot of english words get borrowed in Connemara.

Oops, forgot the fada! Thanks for that, I never made the connection between it and the English word in my head.
