As the year is coming to an end I just wanted to say a very quick thank you to Digital Solitude for all his posts over the year.

I know we don't do a Poster of the Year thing, which I believe to be a good thing, but DS has really put in a lot of work to the forum and has been extremely helpful to not only myself, but dozens of other posters too, not only forum regulars, but also new people coming in looking for advise.

Also props to TerrorFirmer and Solitude too.

Thanks Sonics :o Just kinda doing my thing, don't really know what to say to that, I'm a bit flattered :)

Also thanks to everyone for putting up with my panicked bleating over my madly malfunctioning Skylake build in the last few weeks :o:P Especially Gumbi for trying to sling me a shovel while I merrily dug myself out of the proverbial hole using my bare bleeding hands :p

The problem was that when you started linking stuff I'd already gone offline to fix the mess - turned out malware attacked before I could even install any antivirus, and it hijacked my browsers and messed up Windows Update and, well, everything else - even the wifi drivers! System Restore allowed me to undo the system damage and multiple offline passes with Panda, Spybot and Malwarebytes murderficated it for good. Lost hours of hard work but at least it solved all my problems in one go - wifi stopped messing about and Windows Update started working again :)

I'm hoping to pick up some braided cables ect, to pimp up the PC a bit. Does anyone have any sites they'd particularly recommend?

For more "niche" products (not that braided cables are still niche), I've always had good experiences with Kustom PCs.

Depends on how much you are willing to spend really

    http://www.shakmods.com/

They do custom cables to suit your needs. Will be expensive for a full set though.

Have a look at r/mk if you want to know how deep the mechanical rabbit hole goes.

Anyone had any Amazon delivery being delivered by Asendia? I ordered on Friday afternoon, giving time to get the order ready to dispatch at the latest Monday for a Wednesday/Thursday delivery. It shipped (according to Amazon) Saturday night, but it still says estimated delivery Thursday the 7th of January!

Surly that can't be right. Most Amazon stuff I've bought arrives within 3 days. I selected the second or third option for thew item (just an SSD by the way) so I'd get free delivery, and the order is fulfilled by Amazon too... surely this can't be right? From Googling they transfer to An Post when they reach Ireland which may slow the process down, but if it shipped this morning and is in transit I don't see how the estimate could be accurate...

TL;DR, has anyone had any experience using Asendia on Amazon? :)

I ordered a Xbox One game off Amazon and it shipped 6 days ago and I still don't have it. Hope it didn't get lost in post. Hopefully it is just busy post offices.

I was on to Amazon ref deliveries. Seems there's a bit of an issue in Ireland with the demand simply outstripping what the couriers here can cope with.

Funnily enough mine was an SSD too. Took over a week to arrive on 2 day guaranteed. Fairplay to amazon, they were great about it and refunded the delivery and did their best to sort it.

Damn, I thought Friday morning/afternoon was plenty of time to get it delivered by Thursday :/ Hopefully it arrives in time. ETA times are often inaccurate.

I should have checked that the shop I bought from was dispatching from the UK, but I don't think they are :/ Which adds a day or two to the final delivery time.

    Is it a 500GB M.2 850 Evo. I got two in the end :D

Have to send one back but maybe they'll let you do it when you get yours.

I feel dirty saying it, but I got the Pro 512GB version. :) F*ckin spent 165 pounds on it when the 850 EVO (only marginally inferior) was 91 pounds for the Lightning deal a few weeks ago and I was too cowardly to jump on it :P

Ah well, Christmas and all. Have the money to spend so why not. Hopefully it arrives by the 24th.

I was so close to buying a pro! Enjoy :) Future proofing and all that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭Gumbi

Well, I shot off an email to an Amazon enquiring about the long delivery time. They replied within 6 hours saying they understans it's Christmas etc. and another order to dispatch today and arrive on Wednesday (priority delivery). At no extra cost of course.

And advised me to reject delivery of the original item when it arrives.

    How's that for customer service!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Theyre always excellent. I had An Post lose a €250 item before, amazon shipped me another one as soon as I inquired and two weeks later the original was returned to sender of its own accord.

Their customer service is unrivalled. They are brilliant to deal with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭Gumbi

The best thing was, there was no back and forth email customer service BS; I made an inquiry as to the length of shipping time wondering why the ETA seemed unusually long, and within six hours I received a reply telling me my original order was cancelled and another order with priority delivery was on its way.

It simply cannot get any better than that.
