I wouldn't like to depend on filler if it was in an accident. I would either get it welded or scrap it. Energy should be absorbed through the chassis/ structure in an accident, the filler would be a weak point or bottleneck.

Edit: we have just gone through the same thing with my brothers KA, we got it welded and it passed, the tester asked that the area be left unpainted so he could see the repair, he also said any sign of filler used on the floor, sills or chassis and they will give it a fail dangerous.

I don't feel like starting a new thread because of one question, so here it is:

Would these wind deflectors pass the NCT? (I can confirm that in one central european country this won't pass the NCT for obvious reason)

Second question: would you drive a car on daily basis with wind deflectors that cover 1/3 of the wing mirror?

Watch, you'll sell the scooby, buy the BMW and the second you drive off with it 3 feet of snow will fall.

Yup, 100% that's going to happen.

What is worse, I am working with dude, so I will see my old car everyday. I bet I'll get beemer and 2 weeks later I will want my scooby back. :(
This is the first time ever I am actually really stressed out on selling car. I am afraid lol. Stoll don't have 100% what I want too. E46 325 couple, e39 525, which is impossible to find manual or e90, but e90 after some googling looks like money pits. If I woukd get cheap e38 728, I would just YOLO it for a year with tax and all.

My brothers Nissan Pulsar had wind deflectors like that and never had a issue with the NCT.

I think officially this shouldn't pass NCT as it's clearly obstructing the view (I'd say it depends on who is testing the car of course - they always let me go with completely faded Baile Átha Cliath above the reg number but once it failed). Personally I don't like this. I used to have wind deflectors on all my previous cars (all of them HEKO, on last one G3) and they were all cut out so the driver could see 100%. This is not really kosher.

I wouldn't worry. I see your point but it's higely unliky anyone will pull you on it and if they do, it's just a visual retest.

Forget about the wind deflectors and tell us more about the E30 :o

Auto suits the 525i much better tbh.

What do you want to know? It's a 318is. There is around 900 of them left in the UK (according to DVLA) and I would say very few in Ireland.

I wouldnt go for anything as cool as 335i as I cant afford such a beast, but I think those have an extra set of issues. If I remember right, you were putting some amount of money in yours back in the day, but a lot of it was due to Turbos.

Wasn't mentioned I believe but bigger brakes on the 335 etc compared to the four pots.

325 is what you want really minimum

Advice lads, the end of Jan I'm heading for a weekend to Belfast and Dublin. Belfast on a Friday and Dublin the Saturday.
So I've rented a car but I'm starting to think that maybe it's pointless? I'm not able to check the prices of the train for late January from Dub to Bel but the bus return from Galway to Dublin is about 28e.
So, 1) is it better to just rent the car and drive the Galway-Belfast-Dublin-Galway route or take a bus from Galway, then train/bus (which is faster/cheaper?) to Belfast from Dublin and then vice versa?
I'd prefer the car tbh but it would be about 200e for the car plus fuel and tolls and I'd have to be careful what I drink the night before but it would be more comfortable and quicker.
Just checked there and Aircoach from Dublin to Belfast return is 20e.. Glengall street in Belfast whereever the hell that is.
Edit 2: Ok the total price would be 40e for the whole trip by bus.

When you order from MicksGarage should you get a confirmation email straight away?

I somehow managed to crack the lens on one of the fog lights on the Mondeo today and NCT is early next week so a new one is needed ASAP. Ordered one over an hour ago and still havent gotten an email from them!

Red 2008 Mondeo scraped big time on the path outside the townhouse deli today while reversing onto the road. Was that a family member of yours? :P

Hmmm that may have been me.. And I think it could've been a part of the fog light breaking somehow :p I knew I should've just went to centra, wouldnt have been as big of a crowd around and I couldve parked easier!!

That red Mondeo is up for sale after christmas too. Since I got my Golf I hate driving the Mondeo, such a difference in size of the two cars and I much prefer the 1.9TDI rather than the 1.8TDCI.

Really? I've driven both, and there was no comparison. A 1.8 tdci 125 bhp and a 1.9tdi 130bhp golf, and still I'd much prefer the mondeo. I'd rather have a bigger car too though.

1.9 tdi is much more refined, much better torque curve too.

I noticed sfa more torque, or refinement.

Better torque curve for sure, 1.8 delivers torque all in one big lump.

The Ford 1.8 tdci is ancient it's basically a van engine, i'd still have it over the belt gobbling 1.6 varient however.

One good thing about the 1.8 is like the VAG 1.9 it's economical

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,657 ✭✭✭CIP4

Infairness you could never consider a 1.9tdi to be refined or quite as they are not but they are more refined than the 1.8tdci. I just have a dislike for 1.8tdci engines though since spending a good bit of time in a transit connect a few summers ago horrible yoke I just didn't like it and the engine was sooooo loud.

Ya, that's the one drawback with the 1.8 (I don't find it to be that bad though) With the golf however, I didn't notice any significant difference in delivery.

For me then yes, its my parents car (more of a family car as 5 of us are insured on it (big family)). All of us at home are insured on eachothers cars so over the last year I was able to drive the Mondeo quite alot so I considered it as my own (have definitely clocked up more miles in the Mondeo than what I did in the Corolla or Golf).

Over the last 3 months it has cost a bomb with all the work that has been done to it. Once it passes the NCT then it'll be up for sale.

But if you've spent the money on it now, fixed the issues and it's running well it doesn't really make much sense sell it unless you are buying something alot newer that is unlikely to cause trouble or has a warranty or if you still recon it could cause more trouble.

After a lot of thinking for my own case I recon in the next six months my Megane needs about 1k spent on it but after that money is spent on it it will be perfect for another good while. So I've decided to do everything it needs and keep it as it is actually slowly growing on me. I know I change my mind a lot but I think I've made a proper decision and I'm leaving it at that as I've no interest in changing it really.

Technically not my car so I dont have as much of a say but they are planning on buying a newer car and smaller. They have a few different cars in mind (such as a BMW 118d Coupe, Renault Megane GT-Coupe, Volkswagen Golf, Alfa Romeo Mito etc.) but it will be January before they do anything.

Over the last few months the timing belt, wet-timimg belt, waterpump, clutch and a few other bits were done. New exhaust fitted last week along with a full service and new tyres got. If it passes NCT next week then it wont be expired until 01/2018 so it will be a really good car for someone to get. The biggest issue is that there are so much Mondeo's for sale online and our one has around 230k km on it.

Had some time today, so washed this. Left the back wheel dirty for a pic, the car was fair dirty. Rubbed the rear bumper afterwards and it was like rubbing sandpaper - in serious need of some tlc over Christmas.

Have a genuine question here lads.

Would I be absolutely nuts to go and look at this

    http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/alfa-romeo/156/alfa-romeo-156-2-5-v6-24v-lusso-2003/5015180?v=b#/home

Back in Ireland in a few weeks and this is up in Antrim. Absolutely smitten by it so I'm not bothered by the fact it's on English plates...

They're so rare these days and I miss my 156 V6 a lot....
