Aircraft seem to be holding at EMA. Weather is fine.

For those interested in weather, an uncommon weather occurrence in Ireland at the moment where we have a large variance in wind, with the centre of a low pressure system located over Ireland resulting in different winds across the country. Current surface wind at EICK is 230 degrees and in EIDW 070 degrees and in EINN 310 degrees, that's a south-westerly in cork and easterly in dublin and north-westerly in Shannon, a combination not seen all that often. Nothing amazing, just thought I'd mention it because it's not seen everyday. :-)

Have a look at Met.ie website, click the wind tab and scan through the next few hours noting the change in direction of the wind, then click the pressure tab and do the same, you will see how the movement of the low pressure across the country has such a bearing on the wind direction over the next 6 hours, a plain and clear example of how the wind direction is anti clockwise around the centre of a low pressure.

Ryanair inbound Knock now. 0c with light snow, breaking action all around 63% and there's light slush on the runway. North north west wind (020 degrees) 10knots.

Cork is very different, 12c there with Rain, wind from 220 degrees 27knots gusting 39knots!

EI3721 (STK21M) diverting to Shannon due to winds being out of limits at Cork. Didn't go near Shannon, as wind at Cork have been out of limits for over an hour now.

Changing to runway 34, quite a bit of holding

Edit: Due to piece of the runway coming up on runway 10!

Jaysus Dublin looks fairly messy atm.
Hopefully BA pilots won't have a pissy fit due to the Non-ILS approach on RWY34.

So a bit of RWY10 came up, RWY out of use for the foreseeable future. Does this mean hours, or longer?

EI774 now the first departure off RWY34.

Surely they have maintenance lads on standby to sort out a pothole on a runway.

One comment suggested the rest of the day anyway.

RWY 10 / 28 is in service almost three decades now. It's must be close to needing a complete resurface at this stage, no??

All aircraft breaking off approach due to rescue helicopter (I think). EI345 sounded extremely pissed.

From previous posts in the Dublin Airport New Runway/Infrastructure thread, resurfacing won't cut it. These posts:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=96867032

suggest either 'major reworking' or 'complete reconstruction'. It's in poor shape right down to the foundations from what I can gather.

Is 16/34 long enough for the Emirates to DXB?

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

Well, it has just landed on 34 and I assume the intention is that, if necessary, it will depart from the same runway.

There's two separate races going on for New York between La Compagnie and Virgin, and also British Airways and United Arab Emirates :)

**** happens. Same way as a well used road needs a bit of repair or filling once in a while.
