We'll be a small group in a busy pub.
How much should we tip the bar people?

    i run a pub,
    it really depends.

say with one staff and a group of 12 for 3/4 hours
if they tipped 20/30 to the staff member
    i think they'd be delighted.

it always nice in ireland when they are thought of
some day after wedding parties leave or twenty each.
it's a nice touch. we live in a rural area tho.

    Thanks for the reply.
We probably won't be dealing with just one staff member, probably 3.
Would €30/40 between them be ok?
Better nothing than an insult maybe?

Wait and see what the service is like?

Also depends on what you're doing. Are you renting out a section, ordering food and sticking a card behind the bar? Then you can probably work out something for the staff giving you a hand with that.

If you're just 12 people converging on a pub and then ordering your own drinks, then you can tip at each round if you want.

If it's 12 people converging on a pub, but planning on putting a card behind the bar, then €20 each for the lounge staff and bar staff serving you is loads.

I think €20 each is too much to be honest.
And I don't have it to give it to them anyways.
There'll be no card behind the bar or tab.
We'll each be paying for our own drinks.

€20-30 between you'se all would be happy days for the staff.

Then I wouldn't give anything. If people are buying their own drinks, they can hand over a tip if they like. If people are getting rounds in, they can hand over a tip per round.

I'm not sure if you are Irish, but in general tipping the barman isn't something really that's done unless you've a private area and they're taking care of you.

You tip the lounge staff at every round/drink if you want.

The only time you'd hand over a single tip at the end of the night is if someone went above and beyond or tipping every round was getting a bit messy.
