New installation Eir vs Sky ?

    Hi,

I am in the process of buying a house and my partner and I will be moving in January.

We would like to have a really good internet connection, as we are software engineers and also we see a lot of stuff in Netflix. We see that there is fibre in the zone, but our future house doesn't have any installation yet. We are not sure if there is line or not, but there is no internet connection at the moment.

I have had a chat with sky, which appears to be cheaper than eir, but they told me that they only do installations to TV clients and that until I have ordered a TV package they won't be able to start the process of install the fibre. My partner doesn't like this, as he is afraid that at the end they are trying to gain a new TV client and they won't install broadband. What do you think about that?

In the comparison, sky is the winner, but we are not sure and we won't to be fooled.
    Eir - 18 months contract - only fibre - 65 e/month after 3 months
    Sky - 12 months contract - fibre and tv - 70 e/month the whole year, after that 80 e/month

Is there anyone who went through this process?
    Thanks!

    1. be a bit clearer, has the house you are going to got a telephone line and number already? if it has put the number in eir line checker and it will tell you if it is enabled for fibre.

    2. when you book online with eir it is always cheaper, and you cann do it via chat and get a print out of agreement.

    3. i cant find that offer for fibre only at 65/month.

    4. there is one for 45/month

dont believe anything sky tell you. check their offers online. its 40 per month and includes calls, then 50 after 12 months. but you have to have an eir line first.

are you an existing eir customer?

    1. I don't know if the house has line or not. I asked the agent and he ignored my question. But I don't think it is, because the address doesn't appear in eir line checker, but the house next door it does appear and it has fibre.

    2. I checked the offers online, not in a store. If you chat with them, can you get a better offer?

3 and 4. Sorry, it was 62 e/ month. Yes, you are right. I was checking bundles. Thanks!

I know that sky is 40 and then 50 + tv, which 30, that's why I was telling that I would pay 70/80 per month.

So, there has to be eir line first, ok. So sky cannot do an installation on its own, right?

And no, I am not an existing customer. I have UPC in my current address, but there is no coverage in my future house.

    Thanks!

Sky CAN but won't. Eir and Vodafone will do a new line provide no problem, they pay for the install and over the 18 months you just about pay it off, sky say nah let eir/vodafone take that hit then offer you a deal after your contract.

Vodafone are often slightly cheaper than eir, but they've a silly 300GB FUP (unless that was removed recently) so I'd go for eir.

    Did you go with eir?

I opted for the TV broadband package with SKY .
Installer arrived but was unable to install the broadband but was able to do the TV.
This was late October toady I still have no broadband with excuse after excuse from SKY.
    Stay away from them.

Not yet, I will move to the house in mid January, but yes, we have in our minds getting eir.

Thanks for sharing your situation, it is crystal clear now!
