Then multiply that by three. With one of those Chris Powell. Thats not squad planning, thats a load of rubbish.

The lads name is Nick Powell to be fair.

Some utterly bizarre decisions with subs considering the importance of the game.

Powell for Mata being the wtf one, why not the lampshade that is fellaini.

The signs were there against West ham that our defence was shaky, 3 very soft goals to giveaway. The home game against psv was where it was lost, expecting a win in wolfsburg was going to be a tough ask and it was proved.

We really lack leadership on the pitch, badly need someone to step up when we need to get results.

Is there anybody here who now still supports van gaal as our manager?

No point calling for his head as he ain't going anywhere but interesting to see I'd those who have been beating the "knee jerk reaction to one result" drum all season, have now changed their mind after tonight .

He could still win us the league and/or FA cup, even euroean trophy. I'm hoping for good movement in the January window.

The injuries tonight will hurt us in the league if they are serious but hope not.

After the last few weeks of watching this style of football it has become tough watching United. I was always excited watching United under Fergie even when we lost we still had a go, but this simply doesn't happen with LVG.

I wasn't even bothered watching tonight's match (wish I hadn't to be honest) as I had a lot of stuff that needs doing around the house. I am also getting to a stage that I find watching our matches a bit of a chore. Stoke beating city was much more enjoyable to watch then our dire 0-0 against west ham.

**** all really. Same crap he comes out with every week.

We created this we didnt do this. He was more or less blaming ref for the offside goal as well.

Where do you get the idea he dosent have a clue about football??
    Course he does.

He doesnt have to be a football genius to see what's happening. All he needs to do is sit in the stand and see the drab performances and listen to the discontent in the stands. I agree with Homer though. He seems to be naive on the football side of things and maybe needs some guidance.

Blamed the ref tonight and against PSV.

Tonight was an awful night and performances have been poor, but to call for Van Gaal's head while we are 3 points off the top - with 1 point separating us from Arsenal and level on points with City, is absolutely, completely, utterly f*cking ridiculous.

If we start slipping back in the league then fine - but fans continuously shortening patience is both baffling and infuriating to me.

What is baffling you exactly? We are in a false position in the league. It actually baffles me that people keep using that as a reflection of progress under him. Weve gone fuking backwards. Some of his decisions are downright idiotic and we have a right to question that.

Anyone that is happy to compare us with city and arsenal right now needs their head examined.

By most accounts, he's getting the players the manager wants that are getable, while trying to court top level players who'd be difficult for anyone to get. It's not his fault if said players then aren't playing for the manager. As seen with Moyes, when the time comes to offload LVG, be it now, the summer or next year, he will...

I still support LVG as our manager. Why wouldn't I? We are in a solid position to challenge for the title. Yes the football isnt to everybody taste but its a results business.

Yes we are out of the UCL and thats very disappointing but its not like it hasn't happened before. God knows Fergie fúcked up more than one easy UCL group. We are in the Europa League now, so lets go win the fúcker!!

IMO, all this is reactionary and very Madridesque from many posters here. Do I think LVG is infallible? Of course not. Has he made mistakes? Yes plenty! Are we on course for his 3 year plan which he has always outlined? Yes.

I expect many to jump on this and point out many things that they feel he has done wrong. How hes an idiot. He looks like Beavis. He doesnt shout or jump up and down. Procesh! Blame Woodward cos you know its all his fault. But none of that is going to sway my opinion tonight or anytime soon.

So to answer the initial question, yes I still back LVG Manchester United manager

As I say, if he wins a trophy and we compete until the very end in the PL then he should of course stay but if not then I think the club will have to reassess the situation.

I worry about the quality of player LVG might bring in with buckets of mula too ... Take Memphis for example, I honestly don't know what to make of him.

I'm not going to start gloating at people because they show some faith.

Yes I do still support him.

But never once have I not been critical of some of his dicisions.
I called out the poor team selection and setup at home to PSV.

The fact remains we were niave in two occasions after directly scoring.

We are still lacking a world class centre forward

Martial is still excellent potential but thats not enough as is the rest of the youth in the side. It excites me for the future.

We missed schniederlan tonight as basti wasn't able to cover the ground required which left a gaping hole in midfield

We have a ball of injuries that has gotten even worse after tonight.

And Powell on was wrong it should have been young so yes an incorrect call here but his options were limited.

I still believe the foundation for future success is being built and there was always going to bumps along the way.

Too spoilt for too long alot of fans and they cry for instant results / karma

If he does go I thank him because it he will leave the club in much better place than it was with players in decline and midfield left untouched. Fergie copped to it too.

LVG very spikey in the press conference, saying it was a difficult group, blaming the referee and taking issue with a reporter asking him a question about how long it will take for United to get back to top table in Europe.

Very madridesque??? Apologies for showing a bit of passion for the club. Fans are a fickle bunch and we call a spade a spade. Most rationale fans are not basing anything on one result so can we stop with that bs argument.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,017 ✭✭✭Chagan

The mundane football was probably going to be tolerable while it was getting results. If LVG doesn't change his stance on his tactics he'll be left without a leg to stand on pretty quickly.

To be fair we are a couple of points off top but I can see us falling back once City or Arsenal get some momentum going.

Why? Arsenal could very well be in the same situation as us come tomorrow, out of the CL. City haven't set the world alight either.

Obviously tonight was terrible, morale is low and the team isn't playing that well, but there is every chance of United winning the league, the FA Cup is still to come, and one or two can be brought in in Jan. I honestly wonder what you are watching to think that those two teams are as far ahead of us as you seem to believe.

Dear God almighty... "Madridesque" .. Are you actually joking? If they experienced what we have gone through (in terms of fall from grace) there would be riots on the streets on Madrid... The fans of United have been exceptional in supporting the club through its transition from the SAF era.

Of course plenty will still support him as the manager, what else do you expect? Contrary to overwhelming evidence at times not every United fan is a child who throws all his toys out of the pram because something is happening that he doesn't like!

The CL performance has been shocking, absolutely embarrassing to not get out of that group, it was lost in the games against PSV not tonight. There is no excusing that for Van Gaal, he has to own it.

He can however make up for it in other competitions and since he isn't going anywhere what else would you advocate but supporting the manager and the players?

His job will be up for review at the end of the season barring something ridiculous happening in the league.

If he were to go down the Klopp route at Dortmund or the Mourinho route and have us flirting with relegation I'd say he might go, but other then that the best thing for the club is actually unity and getting behind both the team and the manager.

Supporters is a word that has lost most of its meaning these days unfortunately.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

It'd be Giggs until the end of the season if he did go, right?

Not a hope he's going anywhere. Not with the league position we're in.

Do you remember when we went out of the European cup against Rotor Volgograd?
    That was 20 years ago.

Do you remember when we had to qualify after finishing 3rd in the 1994/95 Premiership. We qualified and came last in our group. meant to say 2004/05 and we went through the qualifiers the final season and came last in our group.
    That was 10 years ago.

We will win the CL within three to four years.

the pundits there including Rio have been saying there LVGs job is now on the line and the club has not made progress, saying there isnt enough quality in the team and there has been a very questionable transfer policy.

    Christmas 2013
still in contention for champions league qualification - 3 points off 4th despite worst start to PL in 25 years.
heading for the 1/4 final of the champions league.
semi final of the league cup.
some fans calling for the managers head, but majority still behind manager.
    fans calling for january signings.
43 goals scored in all competitions.

    Christmas 2015 -

    £300m spent.
    out of the champions league.
    out of league cup.
4th in the league, barely hanging on to it.
playing worst football in 30 years.
majority of fans calling for the managers head, un-precedented booing and discontent inside old trafford.
    fans calling for january signings.
37 goals scored in all competitions.

and people think we have made "progress".....

Look at the football that is put on display.
As far as Im concerned unless we change our rigid tactics no player is going to change it. For the money thats been spent we should be able to slot players in amd out without any disruption to how we play (in an attacking fluid way). City and arsenal are both ahead of us in that respect.

Winning the league/fa cup is very much up in the air. Would you be reasonably confident of that happening? I dont think so. To me spurs/leic have more credence in saying that.
