Even at 140m Neymar could be very viable. Given his age & the likelihood of him being the best in the World as others retire, his worldwide marketing potential could be enormous.

#mufc XI: De Gea, Varela, Smalling (c), Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Lingard, Mata, Memphis, Martial

Hopefully it is just a one man defensive midfield. No need to go defensive today. Not sure what to think of that team...

a right back at right back? whats the prolem? Valencia is injured, Shaw is injured, Rojo is injured, Jones is injured - our options in defence are limited to:

Varela, Smalling, Blind, Darmian and Young.

I'm happy with the choice made, to be honest.

As for Fellaini in the side - more of a goal threat than Carrick/Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin and Herrera are injured. Rooney is out too and we have no other forwards at the club apart from U18 players, so we had little other choice.

Its as good as weev got if you look at the bench. In fairness Fellani will [should] give us a little bit more of a target /threat in their box from set pieces than if he went with Carrick

would like to see it be the shape/formation we did well with last season, with Lingard taking the Herrera role in a three man midfield. Memphis and Mata flanking Martial - with Mata cutting in and Lingard out (in the same way Herrera and Mata linked last season). Gets the best out of Fellaini too, imo.

i much prefer mcnair. varela was playing with real madrid b last year.

fellani is a surprise for me. carrick should be playing.

    just my opinion

I'm happy with that team considering our available options.

Been reading alot of posts about the amount LVG has spent without doing much better than his predecessor so went off looking to get a better grip on it.

The figure of £320 million seems to be bandied about quite a bit. Im not counting free or loan signings.

    2015

    Memphis Depay £25,000,000
    Matteo Darmian £12,700,000
    Morgan Schneiderlin £24,000,000
Bastian Schweinsteiger £14,400,000 however it was reported in some of the German papers that the fee was actually around £6,500,000
    Anthony Martial £35,000,000

    Total Outlay - £110,400,000

    2014

    Ander Herrera £29,000,000
    Luke Shaw £27,000,000
    Marcos Rojo £16,000,000
    Ángel Di María £59,700,000
    Daley Blind £13,800,000

    Total Outlay - £145,000,000

Combined spend by LVG £245,400,000 even including the higher fee mooted for Basti though the pedants can include the £6,000,000 loan fee for Falcao to bring it to around £250,000,000.

DiMaria was obviously shipped out for around £45,000,000 so that brings the net down to around £200,000,000. There were other departures too which shave off another £20,000,000 or more never mind the huge savings on the wage bill

Where is the figure in excess of £300,000,000 coming from? Is it just something people are making up as a stick to beat United / LVG with?

Memphis Depay - hasnt nearly reached the heights promised, he has it in him but needs more time to settle.
Matteo Darmian - Brilliant start but his confidence seems to have been knocked a bit by being dropped and a couple of shaky performances. Can be our first choice RB for years to come I think.
Morgan Schneiderlin - excellent buy and a main stay in CM for years to come.
Bastian Schweinsteiger - his engine may be chugging a little bit but I still think we can get at least two more seasons out of him not starting every game
Anthony Martial - superstar in the making and will hopefully only get better

Ander Herrera - excellent little player that LVG for some reason doesnt seem to trust, played intermittently last year and as a result some of his performances suffered due to lack of fitness. Injuries havnt helped either. A different manager would help him release his true potential.
Luke Shaw - Our LB for years to come, quality player blighted by injuries last year and the horrific injury this year.
Marcos Rojo - when he is solid he is excellent however he and LVG would appear to be at odds with eachother. Great utility player to have though.
Ángel Di María - suck my ass
Daley Blind - excellent utility player that just seems damn happy to be playing for the club.

So to date, ADM is the only permanent transfer that we can say was a disaster. Havnt seen much of him at PSG but from what Ive read he is as inconsistent as he was with us.

What LVG has done is build a team with a huge amount of potential. There is some real talent there. I know its a cliche but if the team can click (and stay injury free) then there is nobody in the PL Id have any fear of. Two more attacking players are whats needed first and foremost and I reckon LVG and The Equaliser will deliver.

In the same period our rivals spent

    LFC £180,000,000
    Chelsea £175,000,000
    City £220,000,000
    Spurs £70,000,000
    Arsenal £100,000,000

and none of them have set the world alight by any stretch.

Im relatively happy with the squad at the moment but we do need at least one player like Sanchez, DeBruyne or Bale to unlock its true potential.

January will be an interesting and hopefully not fruitless month.

Have to give credit to Van Gaal for at least 1 thing. He is not afraid to use younger players even in the most important games. Many managers would have thrown Young at RB or some senior players but he uses younger players which is good to see.

Apart from that, I'm ready to be bored for 2 hours again.

McNair was poor at the weekend in the first half and came off with an injury, so we don't know his fitness levels. Might only be on the bench for a 'needs must scenario', and a lack of numbers.

    Might work IMO

Was his most effective position at Everton anyway

Pretty sure the PSV manager said the Memphis fee was around £19 million ( could be wrong)

Utdm Chelsea, Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern, Juve, AC Milan all had a solid base of home nationals. But you probably cant remember back to the Italian teams as is the case with the little lad here. U tube them when you have your homework done

Or becuase they had good players?

What difference does it make if an Italian plays in an Italian team, he will still be a very good Italian playing for an English team if he moved.
Maybe they like the country they grew up in and didn't want to move which is perfectly reasonable.

But those teams weren't great becuase they had a few Italians or spainish playing for them.
They were good players who would be good in other teams.
Maybe you shouldn't let team chemistry from FIFA with the little lad seep into reality.

So if those players all got swapped around into another team in another country, would the team still be good.
An English team with the Italian lads?

You have the wrong currency, which rather negates your response. When people say 320 million they are talking in euros.

we spent £324m between September 2013 and September 2015, not all of it was LVG, moyes bought Mata and Fellaini out of that.

LVG spent about £262m including the signing on fee for Falcao. ive used the £320m figure a couple of times based off the fact that this is what our current squad has had input into it in 2 years and its very very average.

anyway, hopefully we get through this as boy do we need a lift. going out tonight will put immense pressure on the manager and team and thats not we need right now. the current negative period needs a turning point, hopefully this is it.

time for Mata, Martial and Memphis to step up and prove their worth to the club.
