How to stop a Bichon Frise barking

My bichon frise starts barking when someone walks into the house. the dogs goes insane barking and its near impossible to get the dogs attention again to get her to stop.

Anyone know any tricks or tips to stop this annoying habit.

My westie used to bark at the post woman. I had a word with her and hung a little bag of threats from the door handle outside. For a few weeks she posted a few treats through the letterbox, then the letters, then another few treats. Barking stopped completely after a few days.

In my defence I tried to change it twice but my phone was having none of it.

OP is it stranger danger barking or excitement barking?
